hello everyone
been reading various forums for a while and decided to take action against my hair loss by 1st joining a few forums and then looking to get on some meds asap.

my story and background. will be 38 soon and top of my hair started thinning about 2 years ago. as it was thinning at a slow rate i did not take much notice. then my left side started to thin more but thinning at a slow rate until about 6 months ago my the right side started to thin. i think it was over the last 2/3 months period that i noticed it and again last weekend top of my hair just thinned out quiet a bit. seems like shock loss or something.

have been taking biotin, SP, iron, zinc, ACV for the past year but clearly its not working. my dad had v good hair and so does my mum and granddad. not sure about my fathers side but generally all the family have good hair. i also feel tired frequently but nothing has shown on blood tests/thyroid.

should have started meds last year but my main concerns were sides and having to use for the next 5/10 years or so. also i hear hair becomes hard to manage with rogaine and makes it flakey.

my hair loss seems to only on the front so far. the thinning also happens very sudden within a 2/3 months cycle. is this a normal pattern?

looking to get on meds and want to know what to start with and can i expect any regrowth or improvement for the frontal region? will post some pics later. also do i need to see my gp/doctor before i get on any meds?

thanks and hope to hear some sound advice here and sorry about the long post.

Re: frontal area Thinning and looking for advice

would appreciate a bit more info plz.

a few questions for rogain users;

1: do i only apply to my hair line/thinning area?
2: is it hard to style after using/ if only used at the front does the rest of the hair look odd?
3: does it make your hair flakey?
4: if on holiday, can u swim after applying it
5: if i stop does it effect the rest of my hair
6: what % of users here had success ?

also on propecia:

1: is propecia more recommended here or finasteride

also is it beter to start on propecia 1st or vice versa. the only thing i'm hesistant about usign rogain is the fat it has to be used for the next 10/15 years or what ever.

You apply it to wherever your hair is thinning, that includes hairline and crown.

I don't know about the rogaine liquid. But with foam, it hardly makes a difference in styling my hair.

Minoxidil can effect people differently so your scalp may get inflamed.

If you've given it enough time to be absorbed into your scalp (at least half an hour IMO) I don't think swimming would be a problem.

If you stop using it any hair you have gained or retained through its use will go as well. This applies to all hairloss treatments.

There is no possible way here to measure stats on success but Rogaine is considered one of the top 2 treatments for regrowing hair, the other being propecia. Which is finasteride, to answer your last question. Propecia is just a brand nam for a pill that is 1 MG of finasteride. You can also get proscar, which a 5 MG finasteride pill, cut it up into 5 pieces and just take 1 piece per day.

thanks. should i see my doctor to get the meds or see a dermatologist or do i just go ahead and order?

i am thinking off starting on finasteride 1st and see if it will thicken my frontal region.

Your hair is similar to mine when i started treatments, for me finasteride stopped the loss but didnt give me any regrowth so about a year and a half later I added rogaine which helped to thicken it up.
It's best to go and see your doctor or derm to get a prescription at least then you know your drugs are real.

i will be going to my doctor today to hopefully get a prescription for propecia. very nervouos about sides and shedding.

what i want to know is that does the shedding effect the healthy hair too or only the thin weak hairs on my hairline and top of the hair.

I’m hoping it will stop the thinning and then get on something else.

i went to my doctor and he gave me a 3 months prescription for finasteride at £88. to be honest he did not come across that informative about hair loss( he is bald himself) but advised me to use rogaine instead. he showed me a big list of possible sides for propecia but he said they are very rare. he also told me shedding is also a rare reaction !?!!?!?

i would like to know if everyone does suffer from shedding when using meds. and also does it effect the healthy hair on my head.

he told me to try rogaine and see what happens.

anyone in London who can recommend a hair loss specialist ??

there are a few clinics around but they all seem to be rip off joints and just want to sell their own products.

appreciate your views on this plz.
