I was listening to this podcast I subscribe to called game theory, and one of the hosts was recalling a meeting with "kane" well the guy who plays kane from the command a conqueor series, who happens to be bald. How he looks the exact same now as he did all those years ago when the series began, he also mentioned another guy from bungi, who is also bald, who never seemed to age.

Which got me wondering, since hair is the most cosmetically noticeable characteristic of anyones outward facial appearance, as we age it stands out the most, Wrinkles whatever of course they deepen , but nothing stands out as much as your hair. So if you go bald young, in peoples perceptions you age "slower" or not at all, because other things like wrinkles are much harder to notice, then hair, your hairs already gone.

Whereas if as you age without losing enough of your hair to shave it, your hair gets thinner and thinner as the years go by, and people perceive you as looking older then you really are.

I thought of all the entirely bald people I have known in my life, and I must say that almost down to the last, they all seemed to never age.

of course this theory doesn't account for people who have full heads of hair their entire lives, of course they do go grey though.

The bald guys just get to look like old men faster.
For example Warren Mitchell began playing old man Alf Garnet in the tv series till death do us part when he was about 39, he was still playing the part aged 70 and looked almost the same.
Here he is in the 1990's and the 1960's.

Also HairLossTalk.com favourite Patrick Stewart in the movie Excalibur he played the Character of Arthur (Nigel Terrys) father in law a supposedly much older man even though he was only a few years older than him.

I think if you feel young that will come across in your look as well.

How do you define young? Energetic, confident, full of life? If you feel energetic, that means your body is fit and healthy looking. If you are confident, that means you don't look miserable. If you are full of life, you are always looking for something more... All these traits affect you in a positive way.

Someone that feels young will definitely look younger.

On the other hand, if you let yourself go, you will look older and miserable. In my 20s I let myself go a bit, I woke up one morning and told myself I have to do something about it. I started running, stopped drinking, lost 20kg in 2 years.... My career isn't exactly where I want it to be, but I'm working on it...

The moral of the story is, you can do something about it....

I have noticed that people I have known, who have been or are depressed, that they look tired all the time, dark circles below the eyes, well before that is natural, It's really amazing how much of an effect your attitude can have on your appearance.

See, I don't agree with that s.a.f, maybe for that particular case, but I don't think bald men look old. When I think of joe satriani who's been bald awhile, or people I've known personally. I don't think they look old or anything, they seemed to have been frozen in time, not young, but not old either.
