Hey everyone!

Im a 23 year old male, who hasnt tried treatment yet and wanted to probe the hairloss community for clues to my ailment.

When I was 20 years old I experienced what doctors were telling me was anxiety and depression. I felt sick and stressed out. During the year, exams especially, my hair would shed and fall onto my desk. It was gross and shocking. After taking anti anxiety and trying antidepresants for three years it was discoved, with a test that previously said I was normal on multiple occasions, that I had hashimotos thyroiditis!

After getting my thyroid hormone levels normalized Im now left with thinned hair on the top of my head.

Im still experiencing fatigue from time to time, weight gain, and stretch marks. My doctor is going to test me for cushings disease. But im wondering what other things could be going on. Along with my hairloss I have these red spots and pimples on my head from time to time. I gave myself a buzz cut weeks ago and removed the dead skin.. Now my scalp is revealed and I could see the red spots.

I only use bar soap every other day to wash my hair. I know there is science behind the ph of a soap and skin. Not sure if it also applies to hair.

My head looks like it has a lot of white space in between the hairs on the top, but the hairs are much closer togetger on the sides. The hair ontop of the head also feels courser and grows shorter than the side. If i let my hair grow out I get this weird hair style, long on the sides short on the top..

What are the treatments? Does anyone have any experience with autoimmune related hairloss, espcially hormonal diseases?

My body has historically been very hair.. Loosing it on the top makes me sad ...

Does anyone know what type of hairloss I have from just looking at it?

I'd say you're a diffuse thinner, get yourself finasteride minoxidil and nizoral and see what it can do for you

I have Hashimoto's too but your hair loss is way more aggressive than mine. You look like you have a combination of male pattern baldness and thyroid hair loss. However if your thyroid levels are under control, then your loss is more do to male pattern baldness. Your density is very low. Has it always been that way? Do you have very fine hair? Do you have any photos with your hair grown out?

Here is a picture A few weeks before my buzz cut: http://imgur.com/eIUoC1Y

I was noticible thinner on top. I would get the frizzy top with ok sides if i washed my hair.

Here is a picture from the side with the buzz cut: http://imgur.com/uO8HIqo

There is male pattern baldness in my family, but no ones ever gotten it befor the age of 40...

My thyroid is pretty stable on 88mcg with TSH at 1.9... T4 and T3 look good. But yet again my symptoms still swing from hypo to hyper. Only on a few days do I feel completely normal. Also Im in school and pretty stressed out...

Diffuse hair loss definetly seems like what I have.. What does your hairloss look like?

Do you have other diseases? I have GERD..

I started developing noticible hyper/hypothyroid symptoms in 2012-13.
I was diagnosed in 2013. Almost three years now.

But like I said I remember shedding in my second year of college ~2012

You hair is not bad grown out. I don't think you really needed to buzz it but if you like the look then go for it. I take the same amount of synthroid you do. My levels are around the same as yours. I have diffuse loss too but it looks normal when grown out. You may just have fine hair so it looks worse with you hair is buzzed. I can feel when I go from hypo to hyper too. I suffer from stress induced gastritis too. Why is your doctor testing you for Cushing's. Do you have symptoms that indicate you have that?

Ive gained a ton of weight. Was 180 in July and 2010 in October. I have some stretch marks, slightly red face. Im taking the test saliva test tonight.

Here is my hair starting to grow in after the buzz cut:

Notice the lopsidedness and if you look carefully its kinda red. When I rub my fingers on the top of my scalp, the hair at the base of the roots hurts...

Could some kind of inflamation be taking place?

I think ill also look into lupus... Im going on a no added sugar diet to see how that affects me. I do eat the typical 50lbs a year for an American.

Please let me know what your insights are!

My hair feels peculiar when I run my fingers through it. I feel the longer hairs, but my finger tips feel much shorter hairs. Like some of the hairs from my buzz cut refuse to grow. Here is a crude drawing of what I'm feeling: http://imgur.com/3Bhfivm

If the hairs are still there, although really short, will they grow in time to match the length of the longer hairs?
