I just got my 1 year prescription for finasteride refilled. 1 year ago, almost exactly to the day, i got the balding comment that did it. I've gotten a lot of "youre losing your hair comments" in the past, but the next day, I saw my hair in one of those 3 level fold out mirrors, so i could tilt my head and look at the top. EGAD!!!! I had no idea I had gotten that bald. I still had pretty much full coverage and a NW1.5-2 hairline, but the thinning was horrible, i could clearly see a horseshoe pattern developping. I was always okay with my hairloss until I saw that. It was pretty much Norwood 6, but instead of slick bald it was just really crappy thin hair except for a mowhawk stripe from down to thecrown and then another stripe right above my very thin crown (kind of like a T). That sight pretty much ruined my summer as I spent every minute in the month of August worrying about it.

Seeing all the bad posts and nasty side effects on this site made it worse. Long story short, my hair hasn't looked this good since 2000. The crown has filled in, I've gottn some regrowth in the temples, and all around the hair is thicker. As an added bonus, some new terminal hairs popped up all around the hairline. The T and the horseshoe is not noticeable at all. I dreaded mirrors and photos, now I cant stop looking at the improvement. I'm a diffuse thinner, so I couldnt exactly put myself on the scale, but I "feel" like I've gone from a NW5 to a NW2. Of course I havent but I feel that I have. I've gone all year without a bald crack. because honestly, I dont feel that the priviledged public notices at all. I have gotten no sheds throughout the year, If i did, i certainly didnt notice them. I have however gottn quite a few zits around the forehead and I havent had any acne in years.

My regimen is HE shou wu pills before meals, 1 multivitamin, 1 finasteride per day, about 1.5 ml minoxidil on the head twice a day, nizoral twice a week and thin to thick on alternating days (i wash ever second day.) I also drank lots of soy milk, green tea and vegetable juices. I am happy with the coverage, and I am now trying to increase the thickness, so 2 months ago I added the lasercomb (yikes) and Vive thickening everyday except for nizoral days. I started noticing results just before the 3 month mark. I've been losng my hair for about 8 years, and have had a close buzz ever since 2001. For the first time since then, I am growing my hair out and might even (gasp) get to go to a barber! Overall satisfaction, I would say is about 8.5 out of 10 with the products.
Best of luck everyone.

that's great man, very inspirational and you had and have the right attitude. Im exactly 2 and a half months into my regime. taking 1/4 proscar a day, nizoral 2% 2 to 3 times/week, multivitamins, flax, grape seed extract, and just added MSM (cell repair and antioxident? Sounds potent!), good diet, and plenty of gym time. I have that SAME mohawk patch right down the middle to the crown and bad thinning especially around the crown.

My temples are receded kind of far back, but not horrible. My hair is still and has always been pretty thick and looked good right in the very front, but two or 3 inches back and it starts getting really thin. When I noticed a quarter sized thinning right in the very front middle is when I decided to get busy with this. I always had good success using Toppik (still do) but my chances of looknig decent were getting slimmer and slimmer and I couldn't and wouldn't just lie down and take this.

VERY thin all over, but can see scalp all over. Anyway, there is definite noticeable thickness in the very front at this time and I can seperate my hair and see a noticeable amount of small dark hairs coming in on the front. Lots of fuzz all in and around the hairline and then I have 1000's of slightly coarser darker stubbly vellus a whole inch and half down from hairline going all the way back to the temples all over. It seems to be coarser and thicker looking the further I inspect from the hairline for some reason.

I came into a slight shed that lasted the 2nd month but didn't lose a ton because I didn't have a ton that could be lost. Not 100's of hairs or anything just noticed a few on my hands whenever I tried the 'pull' on areas in the front. I try to inspect the back crown area, but it's very hard to inspect with a mirror no matter how close I get up to look. I do notice lots of short blonde hairs back there at the right angle and it looks and feels slightly thicker.

(You can always tell any slight differentiation in your own hair consistency) Still have a long way to go but I feel confident that I'm over that 2 and a half month hump from starting and the results are gonna be filling in. It's no doubt to me that im gonna be a pretty good responder and there is no better feeling than knowing that. The day that I can quit ordering Toppik is the day that I'll finally be free, so here's hoping..

Do you apply the Jason s thin to thgick before bed. Do you notice a difference using it. Ive heard that grapeseed extract should help hairloss. How much do you take a day??
Ive heard tofu works. But i really aint got a clue how too take it. Is it just like a cheese substance?

grape seed is supposed to help circulation and makes hair and nails grow faster.

Im 30 and had been losing since about 19, but its been pretty gradual. One other VERY important thing I want to point out is that the hair in the very back around the crown has felt and acted like dry hay the past 4 years. Just maybe 50 or so frizzy thin hairs and couldnt be tamed, had no body. Just the past 3 days, it feels like silky soft hair again and has body and has gotten darker every time I inspect my hair by sight or touch (which is a few times a day at least). Hell, starting to look like some hair back there just where the friggin hell it should be. I am smiling once again because my hair has not looked and felt like this in a bunch of years.

I had sides the first month and a slight shed at about 1 and a half months which subsided inside 1 month.

cool...i was asking about the original poster, but your story is good too.

how long have you been on finasteride?

I have been filling in the back/crown area now for about a year. I went on finasteride last July. I have been off it a couple times due to ordering, etc...nothing long, no more than a week, with one major exception around Christmas.

The break didn't really seem to hurt me, it just froze my results...I picked right back up.

You're still getting results after all this time? I gues it's true that the most recently lost is what comes back first.

sorry..i was out in the boonies fixing a roof.
1) I meant "fuller, thicker, hair" shampoo...noyTHink to THick. I used Jason THin to THIck about 6 years ago, when I started shedding...it stopped the shed dead in its tracks. I htink its good. Honestly, I dont know why I stopped using it.
2) I'm 27 and been losin gmy hair for about 9-10 years. Its been very slow except for one major, major, major spike around 2001

since you've been on your routine for awhile now and experienced good regrowth, can you still see new small hairs coming in when you part your hair and inspect? I'm already seeing tons of the small black hairs between the part in the hair, but Im trying to get an idea if some brand new hairs takes longer to re-activate and are going to be coming in after the 're-awakening'
