my hair is pretty much at the worse state its been ever...i think.

its weird. when i got my last haircut about 2 weeks ago, it looked real good (i always size up my hair before i get the highlights put in). but then after the highlights were in, i noticed it didnt look as thick as it normally does when the highlights are in, which got me wondering.

the front middle seems to have thinned out a lot. the temples seem to be thin for quite far back from the hairline. on top of this, my recession has progressed. at first, i started off with almost zero recession. then, i developed little triangle at the very corners of the hairline, with the centre part of the hairline still dead straight. but now that straight part has started to form a very gentle U to meet up with the corners. its not a lot of recession, but enough to make me sh*t a brick. because i know the hairline is the hardest bit to get back.

what im most concerned about is the thinning in the middle, from the temples quite far back, and the crown. has anyone, please, happened to have seen something similar around the 5 month mark? how did it go after that? im at a real low at the moment...im still getting on with life, hitting the gym etc, but feel bad on the hair side.

its weird, a lot of my psychological problems about my hairloss arent because i think it looks real bad now. but largely about the sense of inevitability - that i know itll go totally down the drain soon. i just want to hold this thing off.

any help would be much appreciated. im a diffuse thinner on finasteride and nizoral. i only added nizoral about 3 weeks ago though. could this have been a nizoral shed?

thanks.

nizoral isnt enough of a treatment to cause sheds. Why not chalk it up to a finasteride shed?

That sense of inevitability is the worst. I'm with you all the way on that one,. it really tore me up last year, a sense that I could see my youthfull looks wash down the shower drain, never to return.

Just hold tight, bro. Five months is early to see positive results from finasteride. Odds are you'll do fine. I'm almost at the year mark, and the sense of impending doom is gone. My hair is stable and even the occasional shed doesnt scare me anymore.

hm yeah finasteride shed. only thing is every time ive noticed loss ive always thought, "finasteride shed". but it seems like its been a steady loss since i started in some ways. i thought i had a shed and regrowth before. but this stuff messes with your head, im not so sure i did anymore.

one of the bad things about this hairloss is def the "impending doom" thing though. ive even put off asking out a hot girl that i knew liked me before, just because i thought if in a month my hair goes to sh*t shes not going to want to know.

2 good things have come out of this hairloss though (hard to believe i know). ive been living every day like its the last good-hair day (lol) in the sense that ive been getting out more and chatting up girls more etc (this has had some bad effects on my studying though!!). and also its motivated me to hit the gym. i would recommend this to anyone who hasnt done so already. when you feel like your hair is degenerating, theres nothing better than "balancing it out" - its a good motivator to see your body getting better and better month by month even if your hair is not.

any more help though on the propecia issue would be much appreciated, any more experiences anyone has had that are similar, anything around the 5 month mark perhaps?

flux, did you see sheds? and when? when did you get regrowth (if you did) or stabilising, and how did you know it was this for sure?

thanks.

It can be hard to tell whether the hair is coming or going,. taking good high res pictures help for that, because the mind can play tricks on you but pictures dont lie.

I went through a number of sheds. Most noteably was one in month 2 (minoxidil), and then in months 7 and 8 (im guessing finasteride). They generally lasted about a week, with hairs all over my hands after shampoos and minoxidil aplications. I got minoxidil regrowth within a few months, which was quite obvious looking at a couple of hair shafts (though most of it was far more subtle). The hair has all grown back, and even the relativly light shed I had last week didnt set me back. I know for sure because I am seeing less scalp then I did a year ago. I do still see plenty of scalp; my hair is not thick, but its enough for me to feel confident.

You sure are right about working out. Hitting the gym is one of the best things we can do to offset the effects of male pattern baldness on our confidence and looks. I've been working for the past four months, and while I never was a big guy, I'm getting there! I feel great about my body and its great to have a way to activly improve myself instead of sitting around feeling sorry for myself. (diet is important when building mass, research proper weightlifing nutrition if you havn't. A great site for this is http://www.johnstonefitness.com)

You cant win with Propecia alone, maybe your DHT still maintaining its lead or illness causing the problems.

Try to look into vitamins and minerals, change your habit. Ever wondered those who have XYZ regimens has better results than those taking propecia or minoxidil alone.

the gym is a good idea but it really isn't for me. I don't wanna become a macho jock type person I am who I am cos of my hair! But good on you hopefully things will pick up! Maybe I'll have to in the near future.

Shedmaster: Yes. A shed is a shed. Mine were somewhat brief, but they were pretty bad.

Majin: You can win with propecia alone. That is why it is approved by the FDA to be presribed for hairloss.

Mr Sparkle: Changing your body does not change your personality.

Is there any connection between the gym and the shed? Try to use a topical dht inhibitor straight after the gym - it´s just a hunch.

Increased circulation is not going to hurt the follicles. it does not mean that any more DHT will collect in the scalp. It could even help carry some away. Working out does cause a small increase in testosterone levels, but not enough to significantly offset the Finasteride.

It does cause one to sweat, which could help some hairs fall out, but only if they were about to anyways.

thing about my shedding is, ive never had a typical "shed" in the sense of having hairs all over your hands etc. just noticed it been thinned one month. or thinner than it used to be. anyone else have "sheds" like this? or am i just losing it slowly? help!
