Hi all, been browsing through the forums and you all seem like a friendly bunch so I have a few concerns I'm hoping to get some answers on
To give you a bit of background I'm mid 20s and about 4mnths ago started to become concerned about thinning of my hair, for the last 8 years or so I have treated my hair pretty bad (I've had med length back combed/messy hair and used a considerable amount of product, pastes and hairspray mostly but hot straighteners and blow drying has surely contributed to the problems I'm having now)
Im hoping (I know it's a longshot but any men's who may have experienced same problems might be able to help).
At the moment I seem to have really badly thinned patches dotted about all over my head (these are all, from what I can tell.. In areas that have taken mot of the abuse from styling, where I have heavily sprayed/styled then brushed products out etc it seems to have just ripped hair out, I have recently cut my hair much shorter to avoid using any products but I can't really crop it with clippers as this would leave me with obvious patches just dotted about in various places).
My main questions really are, if I was suffering from genetic hairloss as well as styling damage would I expect to see gradual thing radiating out from my crown over a number of years? Genetic hairloss wouldn't contribute patches would it?
Also where the patches are most noticeable i can feel shorter prickly hairs growing through, this must be a good sign regarding genetic hairloss? And if anyone here has experienced the same problems as a result of over styling/hair abuse how is your hair today? Can I expect to regain all my hair growth after a year or so of keeping my hair as short as possible and treating it better? Or is the damage I've done to the follicles a permanent thing?
Appreciate any advice you may have to offer as this is something that is causing me a lot of distress at the moment.
On a side note with regards to genetic hairloss, my father has suffered a great deal of hairloss however my grandfather on my mothers side has a full head of hair at 83, should I be concerned/look into possible treatments or am I most likely over thinking this and just need to give my hair time to grow back through, again appreciate any advice and wish you all the best of luck with any treatments you are undergoing youselves.
Apologies if part of this text wall are misspelled/don't make sense, I assure you I am literate however my iPad isn't and doesn't seem to like posting on forums. Many thanks, alex.
