Worried about crown; treatment needed?

Hello all,

I am 24 years old and have pretty thick hair. I have been monitoring my hair since I was about 20 fairly worried and getting increasingly paranoid that it's getting worse. I have done a lot of reading up on it and because my dad's family history isn't strong the chances I lose my hair are pretty high.

Anyways I took a picture of my crown and wanted to get an opinion. I am visiting my doctor tomorrow and will ask for a referral to either a dermatologist or whoever can give me a good idea of what I can do to help prevent any further recession.

My temples are fine but have slowly begun to turn into a smaller V shape.

Thanks and would love opinions

Use toppik if you dont want to get on meds, you have big opportunity to recover if it is male pattern baldness

Look it upp on google its tiny hair fiber that cover hairloss, if you want to use meds finasteride is The first option and keto schampo, you can still use toppik your hair loss is not a big deal you should recover fast mate, and you can use toppik while finasteride kicks in if you dont like how it looks now

And with big deal i mean its not that bad you should recover fine with finasteride

But its all on you what you want to do, i dont even know if its male pattern baldness you should first do a map test, its so hard to say if somone is balding Or not with pictures like that, but Ye if you want to use meds finasteride should do

I appreciate the feedback that is helpful.
Well the funny thing is my doctor hasn't reffered me to anyone and refuses to because she says I am fine but I still think the chances of me losing hair within the next few years is high. I am in Canada so for finasteride I need a prescription which is why it's been a struggle since my doctor says she doesn't think I need it.

Also if I wanted to see a Dermatologist I need a refferal and so far nothing.

Why do you think you need a referral for a dermatologist? Call a derm. and schedule an appointment as a new patient.

Most I spoke to said they don't accept new patients unless reffered by a doctor. Ill try again though and look around anyways. Or ill see another doctor.

The hair on top and back is very thick. On the other hand, the vertex, definitely something going on.

Worrying won't help. Treatments however, combined with a young age, will.

And, that's the most treatable spot. I would have to say the temples is the least treatable spot, for the majority
of people. The vertex, might even be able to just use Minoxidil for that, for some years before finasteride is necessary.

Thanks for the response. Thing is while I am concerned about this area, my hair has sort of always been that way on the vertex. Like you said the back and other areas are fine and for now my temples are ok too but yeah the top there seems thinner.

Im looking into options right now possibly a derm.

Lucas Im from Toronto too and it took me almost 2 years to get the prescription for finasteride. I even got an appointment to a regular Dermatologist who spouted BS and didn't give it to me. In the end, someone on here recommended a COMSETIC dermatologist who is MUCH more likely to sympathize and give you a prescription (thats what happened to me). Since you're in Toronto, I can recommend Dr. Shapero, http://www.shaperodermatology.com/our-staff/ I had the problem too where my Family Doctor (woman too) didn't see any problems and didn't want to give me anything.

You have to either be FIRM with her that you WANT to go see a dermatologist, or you need to go to a Walk-In (if they don't give finasteride to you, atleast ask fro a referral to a dermatologist)
I can personally vouch for the Doctor above, was knowledgeable about male pattern baldness and left it up to me to decide what I wanted.
