Working out raises Testosterone, while finasteride blocks DHT....do you think working out hard (muscle building mainly) will help reduce sides?

I used to think this, but honestly it really doesnt make any difference. Working out and eating healthy while being on finasteride, will far out weigh not working out and eating unhealthy food and just leading a bad life style in general. Ill put my money on the former to retain more hair EVERYTIME.

Choice is yours.

During weight lifting, your T level will temporarily raise and it will drop back to normal gradually after the work out.

finasteride will tend to increase one's T level by 10% or so.

A lot of people like to use the "finasteride increases testosterone" arguement when this question is asked, but it doesn't tell the whole story.

Read this article about the importance of DHT in weight training:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/reform8.htm

And this one about a body builder's experience with propecia:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/drryan14.htm

I read the second link and it seems the writer doesn't really know hair loss as well as half of the people here.

i personally have found i put on muscle faster now i'm on dutasteride.

and anyway, just read the first paragraph from that second article and you'll know that guy knows absolutely nothing about hair loss, its causes or its treatments.

As you take oral Finasteride, a type II 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor, it quickly deactivates testosterone in your body. Men with early hair loss were found to have low serum dihydrotestosterone (DHT), and normal or slightly elevated serum testosterone. Rogaine and Propecia are designed to quickly turn testosterone to DHT.

"Rogaine and Propecia are designed to quickly turn testosterone to DHT"??????????

idiot

finasteride alone increases testosterone by about 10%

says who?

"Finasteride caused a significant decrease in serum dihydrotestosterone after 6 and 12 months, but no effect on serum testosterone."

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entre ... t=Citation

http://jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/conten ... t/75/2/484

http://intl-jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/c ... /70/4/1136

Propecia product monograph - Finasteride produces a rapid reduction in serum DHT concentration, reaching 65% suppression within 24 hours of oral dosing with a 1-mg tablet. Mean circulating levels of testosterone and estradiol were increased by approximately 15% as compared to baseline, but these remained within the physiologic range.

In the five-year study, "At month 60, treatment with finasteride led to a median difference between the treatment groups of - 55% [- 68.6, - 45.3] (p < 0.001) for serum DHT and 7.0% [- 6.8, 21.6] (p = 0.315) for serum testosterone."

Oh do come on, that's a pretty tedious conspiracy theories. The 5yr study was a large scale exercise published in a peer-reviewed journal. You have absolutely no evidence whatsoever that it was in any way manipulated  If you do, then we can talk. All the studies you cited were pretty small. Bigger trials have greater power.
