hey all,
I am new here!!
my problem began 3 years ago when I started to lose my hair very quickly,I used to have very very thick hair and extremely dense hair to the extent that every hair follicle appears to give 2 to 3 hairs together!!! and my hair used to grow very rapidly>>>I passed in the past 7 years in a severe stress (I used to live alone and to study for a long period of time"I am a medical student" and I was in a very bad psychological status) and I didn't realize that this is abnormal hair loss except late(not because I don,t care but because of my lack of knowledge about baldness), and now people noticed my hair and say: you are starting to bald what happened with your beautiful hair?? "my hair was falling as hell in the past 3 years"
I know that this is male pattern baldness but accelerated by the severe stress that I was facing(my family members have baldness from both sides and my father was bald by the age of 25!!) and the bad nutrition also.
I just was wondering, because hair follicles need 3 years to die and to stop giving hair due to DHT effect...if I started to use finasteride now will it restore the hair that have been lost the past 3 years??
I am sorry for my bad english
and thank you all in forward

in my opinion it should. the hairs the were weakned by DHT should slowly turn into thick hair again. rememebr this takes a lot og time. it might take 2-3 years for it fully to reverse. there was a japanese finasteride study down for 3 years, and it said as duration increased the resuslts got better. reversin is a very slow process
Tomisthinning thank you,
It is not a problem if it takes long time as long as you have the follicles alive and everything will return to normal again, I will be optimistic and I hope so

Hair loss due to the effect DHT has is a very slow process. In fact, you may have been actively balding before you even noticed there was a problem.

The good news is that yes, finasteride can reverse a significant amount of the loss you suffered, and very possibly the last 3 years.

For me, being on finasteride for almost 2 years has probably reversed 2 or 3 years of 'visible' balding. I started on finasteride when I was 28, and am 30 now. Looking at pictures, my hair is about the same as it was when I was 25, which is about when I first started noticing signs of loss.

If the follicles are not completely dead, they should recover slowly from the decrease in dht levels. this I think depends on the aggressiveness of your balding. I have been taking finasteride for 18 months now and I could say I have gained some thickness back but the area where i first noticed thinning doesn't seem to recover. this is the problem with hair loss, you wouldn't know it is happening until it hits you one day.(which unfortunately for me was when I was 20 and half). what I would suggest is incorporate some nizoral in your routine, it is known to be an anti androgen and anti inflammatory...plus you don't have to use it twice a day like minoxidil and one study showed it was as effective as 2% minoxidil. good luck
