Why lose most hair on the top vs side?

How come one loses most hair on the top compared to the sides that are mostly not so affected?

lol i can just imagine now people worrying about recession from the back of their hair. And if people who couldnt grow hair at the back would grow a fringe long and slick it back. :woot:
