Why have I lost ground since switching from Rogaine foam to solution?

A couple of weeks ago, I began to use Rogaine solution rather than Rogaine foam as I felt that the solution was more effective at penetrating the scalp due to the presence of propylene glycol.

However, since making the switch, my previously stable hairline has begun to recede, although I'm not shedding more than usual.

Does anyone know why this might be? The instructions that accompany the solution say that results can be expected after 2 months. However, I have been using the foam for a sustained period of time and I expected the solution to continue the work that the foam had started.

If my hair needs to adjust to the solution then I'll continue to use it as I do believe that it penetrates the scalp more effectively. However, I am tempted to return to using the foam ASAP.

This is not encouraging information. I'm planning on using the solution at night in a week. I will continue to use the foam in the morning. I'm almost wondering that for some people minoxidol might actually cause hairloss. Maybe the foam wasn't reaching your scalp to have that effect? Or the other cause might be that the foam wasn't reaching your scalp, and that now you are going through a shed which is encouraging that it might be working?

I think you're going to have to continue it for the full 4-6 months if you want to know for sure. If you aren't willing to take the risk, just stick to the foam or quit minoxidil all together perhaps?

I think the best way to proceed is to use foam in the morning and solution in the evening.

Sweet deal. What are your thoughts of using finasteride?

I've been using it for 4 months and it hasn't yet stopped my hairline receding.

Is it just your hairline? How old are you? Does your dad still have hair with a receded hairline?

I'm 20. My hair is slightly thinner than it used to be but nothing significant. My dad is entirely bald.

Curious, have you asked your Dad whether he would have taken hairloss meds if given the option? They didn't exist around the time my father went bald. I asked him and he said he wouldn't have taken any because he doesn't like taking medications in general. Interesting generational difference lol.

I haven't spoken to my dad about going bald at all; I'm not sure he is even aware that I use minoxidil/ finasteride etc.
