Why doesn't finasteride do nothing to thicken my hair?

I'm now 14,5 months on finasteride, and it seems to have more or less maintained my hair.

I'm a diffuse thinner and still have many many thin hairs on my head, so why finasteride doesn't want to thicken them?

I thought finasteride is capable of thickening thin hair.

I'm sure I even have slight regrowth at hairline and temples (but hairs are very thin), but no thickening of existing hairs.

Is there a chance that my hair will thicken by 2nd year mark?

Yes, but if hairs are still alive then shouldn't they be growing thicker and healthier after DHT is removed by finasteride?

I have often wondered whether finasteride and minoxidil affect the same hairs most of the time, some of the time or none of the time. My finasteride experience(have been on it for 4 years now) was that by the 1 year mark I had thickened and maintained on finasteride alone. My wife(who cuts my hair) noticed this, but after 1 year or so I was only maintaining.

From what I understand since DHT "damages" the hairs, blocking the hormone will only stop those hairs from miniaturizing further (or it will at least slow down).

The human body has a great ability to regenerate. You don't think those follicles will regenerate once you get the DHT to stop attacking and killing them?

I actually don't know, I was just spectulating based on what I know which isn't much as I haven't done a whole lot of research in this area. It'd be awesome of finasteride re-grows hair but I just haven't seen it in most cases, including mine. I have no problem conceding that it could occur though.

From what I read, finasteride should thicken the hair as well... Otherwise I'm really getting confused with the studies. Nizoral does also help thicken the hair.

finasteride stops it, sometimes regrows, but MOST PEOPLE need minoxidil to jump-start the recovery of their follicles.
