People hear about spironolactone and talk as if it is the best thing since sliced bread. Well, it ISN'T! I mean, it is a nice weapon, and it has worked for me, but let's be real here folks, IT IS A TOPICAL!
I just find it funny how people can whine about avoiding minoxidil because they don't want to use a topical that is a pain to apply and after they stop using it they will lose their regrowth. Well, listen up folks, spironolactone IS THE SAME SITUATION.
spironolactone is not the end all of be all hairloss treatments. Yes, it is a suitable substitute for internal Finasteride. But, it is not nearly as convenient a component of a regimen as Finasteride is. It is a TOPICAL, just like Minoxidil, that requires you to apply it to your head, let it dry, etc etc, and if you quit it you lose your gains. I just don't understand why people think it is 'easy' while simultaneously whine about Minoxidil being 'hard'?

Cant understand it myself as well. I think spironolactone is complete bollocks.

Am I incorrect in assuming that unlike minoxidil, spironolactone doesnt cause your hair to become dependent on it.
Sure, if you stop spironolactone you will then have your hair become vulnerable to the DHT it was blocking but with minoxidil even if you blocked 100% of DHT any hair minoxidil saved is going to shed.
Also, unlike minoxidil, spironolactone actually blocks DHT. Minoxidil simply causes your hair to remain in the growing stage for a longer period of time.

I don't understand applying spironolactone is the easiest thing to do. Takes about 1 minute and dries withing 15 minutes. Minoxidil takes 3 hours to dry is a pain in the *** to apply (medicine dropper) and makes your hair greasy as hell. Unless..........your using Dr. Lee's minoxidil.
spironolactone also makes my hair look alot thicker cosmetically, probably because of the propylene glycol which swells the hair shafts.

I would certainly rather have a full head of hair than sliced bread, and that is what topical spironolactone has given me.
spironolactone is extremely important because its the only real alternative to oral dht inhibitors. Dr. Proctor, who has over 25 years of experience in hair loss and using topical spironolactone, says that it works as well as propecia. My experience bares out his claim, where I obtainted propecia results in just 3 months while using it as a single topical agent.
The reason people complain about becoming dependent on minoxidil is because indications are that it may lose its effectiveness over a 3-7 year period. There is no indication that spironolactone will lose its effectiveness. Its a androgen receptor blocker, and attaches/blocks receptors nearly as tightly as dht itself.
spironolactone does have its disadvantages, the main one being the smell. If you leave it on your head too long or mix it with minoxidil or wear a hot on top of the application, it can give off a disagreeable smell.

I didn't shed with the 2%, but i continued to lose the same amount of hair, which was over 100 hairs/day. At the 3 month mark I sprouted about 100 new hairs per square inch all over my scalp. After adding cu peptide and 1ml of minoxidil 5% my hair lose rate decreased to below 100 hairs/day.
I'm now past the 1 year mark and my hair is very thick and I have not experienced any shedding. Not only have I not lost the new hairs in the beginning, by new hair continues to sprout all over my head and along my hairline.

I think its essential either in combination w/ proscar or by itself w/ maybe
revivo or beta sis. Its on thing to reduce dht in the blood to but to have something that is blocking androgen activity actually in the follicle is crucial.
Ive been using the 5% spironolactone for about 4 months and have seen tremendous improvement, but it is a little more time consuming than the 2% version.
There is definately more scientific backing behind spironolactone to help with dht than anything out there other than finasteride. ( Bryan may say ALA/GLA which has some good backing as well)
