Hello!

I had a very heavy reaction on propecia. Already after the 1-2 week I have noticed that I began to shed very heavy - then I took off the pill and after some weeks my hair loss went back to a normal amount..After 2month I decided to take again (now a half pill: 0,5mg finasteride) and again after 2weeks I shed very heavy (like never before) and again after 2weeks all went back to the amount of hair loss as it was before (But now I continued the taking of propecia!!!). So it is clear that my high increase of hair loss is connected with the taking of finasteride.

1. But in all this time (also before) my temples growing a lot!! Did anyone of you experienced something like this?

2. What conclusion could be made? It is a good or a bad sing? Because actually (if you have a look on the normal growing phases of hair follicles - 3month etc..) it isn't possible that finasteride can cause a shedding in this short time??

I would be very pleased about an answer - because I am very unsure about this!

Kind regards,
TB*

I have read that hairs that fall out that early we're in the dying phase already. I am not sure if they are likely to regrow down the road or not, but it's safe to bet that they were about to fall out anyway.

That fact that you keep stopping and starting the treatment will cause you problems. finasteride is not a stop start treatment. You need to take it for about a year to see if it works for you.

Of course finasteride isn't a start-stop treatment - but my described experiences had nothing to do with the stop and start. It shows that finasteride induce a abrupt fall out of my hairs in the first weeks and then all went back to normal. And I need a theoretically explanation - how is this possible? Because such hair cycles are only possible with growth stimulants like minoxidil & co! (As it is said in the first answer)

Kind regards,
TB

People can react to finasteride in different ways. If you go here >>>>>> shedding . The shedding process can then be explained in more detail.

At first thank you for the link - but I have already read this article for a long time..and if this high increase in hair loss would be after some weeks or month all would be ok - but it was nearly a allergic reaction – because it came so fast. . Especially upon the possibility of hyperandrogenity… At first I thought I could be caused by another treatment (see below) but I tried it a second time and all was the same

It is very depressing..(most of all that the temples are again grow)

1. Relax.

2. You are taking nine things, seven of which we have no reason to believe are helping you stop your hair loss. Four of which we have no idea as to what they're doing to your body that you may not even be aware of.

3. All anyone can say is that it is possible that your shedding began after a couple weeks on Propecia. Very possible.

4. If you truly did read the shedding article, you would know that the worst thing you could do is start and stop a treatment that is causing shedding. You are supposed to stick with it and ride out the shed.

5. Shedding is not lost hair. The article states this. It is a response to a new treatment causing a "restarting" of the growth and resting cycle. Exactly when it happens is entirely up to your own biology. Hell, one might even logically say that if you are responding that quickly to Propecia, you may be an incredible responder in the long run.

6. The only things in your regimen that are really going to help stop your hair loss are finasteride and minoxidil. I don't know why you selected head and shoulders over Nizoral. All your time and concern should be focused on starting propecia, and doing your best to stay on it.

Good Luck.
