And would you let your parents know?

This question would really apply to those who still live at home and who are roughly my age (22).

Personally I've kept my treatments to myself from day 1 and I have no reason to let them know.

Coming foim the UK, I'm not really sure where to start, but it's probably a year + down the line anyhow. When/if my time eventually comes to get one, does anyone have any pointers of where to go and what to do in the meantime?

I hear that they an do wonders with surgery these days and being a norwood 2.5 the amoount of hair isnt really a concern for me. It's probably just the money side and where to go etc.

Yes, I'm on the big 3 - have been for 2 months

I have had 3 hair transplants and had no issue telling anyone. Since I paid for them, I guess the issue of telling my mother was moot??

One recommendation. Stay on the big three at least 18 months before you have a hair transplant, esp. at your age.

Good luck.

Bruce, how old were you when you got yours done?

2) Were you satisfied with the results and did it give you a massive confidence booster?

3) How much does it cost these days?

4) I hear America is the best place to go to get one?

Did you say, you did tell your parents or didnt? I'd definetly go with the latter.

I got my fist hair transplant in my early 30s, the second in my mid forteis and the last one at age 53. I was happy with all three procedures, since they were tailored to where I was in the hair loss process. In other words, each one was modest in overall hairs transplanted, so it never looked like I had grown a ton of hair at one time.

I never really had an issue with self confidence. I am just vain and wanted to have nice hair. That has always been the goal.

I paid $4 per graft last time, so I got about 1800 hairs for $3000. US.

I can't comment on the America as the place to go. My Doctor is here in San Diego and is really very good. I recommend him.

Of course I told my mother (my father was dead at the time, still is!)

I don't understand the concern about telling your parents but then again I don't know them. Perhaps you can expand on this worry>

I had 4 sessions in my temple and hairline when I was 28. I paid for them myself and I couldn't wait to show my parents. Needless to say, they were less than impressed - maybe I should have taken off the bandages but who knew?

Cost? About $5K back in 1988. These were traditional "plugs."

Satisfaction? Yes then and yes now. But only about a 7 on a scale of 10. The Dr. I worked with kept telling me I was going to have a higher hairline - one that would suit me better later in life. I was hoping for the hair I had at 16. Once I got past that, all was well. Confidence returned and life went on.

Listen to BruceLee - do the treatments for as long as possible before going to the surgery. The problem with hair transplant's for people your age is: what happens when you continue to lose your natural hair? More transplants of course.

You can easily spend $50-100K and yet never be satisfied.

Yes, the hair transplant route can be a slippery slope without a long term Hairloss strategy. Jerry is right. Proceed carefully with a long term strategy in mind.

Good luck

everyone tells me getting a hair transplant now is a bad idea. the problem is, i'm 24 and thinning in the crown (for about 4 years now) and not at the hair line. i just don't want to turn into those guys who still have their hair line, but above that, it's slick city! i think there's more dignity and more attractive to lose at the hair line.

I am 25 and have previously thought about getting a hair transplant done down the raod. My feelings have changed somewhat now, I don't think I would have it done now. I am in a solid relationship with a girl that could give a sh*t and I am pretty confident about myself. I think if it gets bad down the line, say in 3-4 years, I am cool with shaving the b**ch down. I have the physique to get away with it thank God. I often need to reassure myself that it's only hair. Who gives a sh*t anyways? Nobody I know does.

I would get a hair transplant if it was needed to make the cloned hair look better, other than that I chill with being bald.
