Which is safer: finasteride or RU

If you overdose on a topical medication, you will get systemic side effects.

CB-03-01 is safer than RU58841. The reason is that a small amount of RU58841 metabolizes to an anti-androgenic compound which has a much longer half-life than RU58841. It accumulates a bit, and will cause systemic side effects if you overdose. CB metabolizes to a safe compound, and the animal study showed that you would have to use hell of a lot to cause any systemic side effects.

Btw, serum DHT level is reduced by around 70% with 1 mg finasteride a day.

RU58841, no doubt, but significant, systemic absorption can have some serious consequences over time, like drastically increased testosterone production (and thereby increased aromatase activity, which could shift some hormone ratios), and liver damage. However, people will reduce the dose when they experience brain fog, which is one of the first signs of systemic absorption.

Finasteride can easily cause secondary hypogonadism, and the damage is difficult to reverse.

As a general rule; local treatments are superior to systemic treatments in relation to side effects.

What happens if they dont realise they are overdosing, what happens if they dont get any signs of systemic absorption?

Its not an exact science to say "hmm well they get brain fog and know to reduce the dose"

Again its important to note that you use at your own risk, and that no-one can say for definate that this drug is actually safe... even if in theory it appears to be so
Please do some research on anti-androgens. Preferably try one yourself and see how it works. You will notice systemic absorption. I don't understand why you have to point out that people are using RU58841 on their own risk, and no one can guarantee that this drug is safe. This is the case for all the medications we have. There is always a risk. There is no safe medication, but most of them can be used safely. Do you understand the difference? There is nothing which indicates that RU58841 can't be used safely, and you can ask any doctor you want; local treatment is always safer than systemic treatment.

Incorrect! Not everyone notices systemic absorption, especially if its only a slight amount. Yes a huge amount would be noticable, but if you continually systemically absorb just a slight bit every day then the effects may be damaging without you actually really noticing.

Also you are relying on a person putting 2 and 2 together, and not blame it on other things like stress, tiredness etc.

I take dutasteride, i've never noticed any problems, yet as its saved my hair for 6 years then it clearly is working its magic. Some people on dutasteride have major side effects. Everyone is different and so you can't blanket everyone with the statement of "people will notice"... there is no guarantee of that!

All medications can have sides yes, there's no debating that... however most medications have had years of study and been through the correct clinical trials... RU hasnt!!! Therefore its impossible to compare it to something like finasteride, which although can have bad sides, they are well documented and people can make an informed decision on based on all the evidence present... something they can't do with RU. And as such you shouldn't go around saying "oh its fine, yeah you'll notice if you are overdosing, chill out its all good" or words to that effect.

Taking RU is a risk, you do so without knowing the full long term effects. No one can say that it is categorically safer than finasteride... yes in theory it seems like a pretty safe product, but that doesn't mean it is, and as its dose dependant, and you have to mix your own... then the possibilities of long term side effects can't be ruled out.

Local treatment better than systemic? Obviously! That goes without saying! But it depends what you are using locally! Is local better if its not had any long term studies and can be absorbed systemically if you overdose, which in turn can cause liver damage? Put it this way I dont think anyone can say for certain that it is, and to do so I feel is leading people in to a false sense of security over the product.

I'm not trying to say to people "dont use it, its dangerous". I'm saying that you do so at your own risk, and you need to do as much research on it as possible to make sure you know the risks... and not just take some guys word for it on a forum.

You seem to be very passionate about this drug, and I can't blame you for that, we all want an effective side effect free treatment. However until its been through all the same trials and has as much information about long term use as finasteride, its impossible to say that it's safer than finasteride, or a better drug, as there's not enough documented evidence to compare the two

Just two comments. First, topical is not as safe as many seem to think. As I have mentioned before, 80% of a topically applied finasteride dose is absorbed. There aslo appears to be the risk of significant cardiovascular side effects from topical minoxidil.

Second, during trials maunfacturers tend to under-report side effects but more important, after a drug is approved they ignore side effect reports, often only until severe effects emerge.

Case in point, the sexual side effects of SSRIs, which can be permanent.
