Hi everyone. I just turned 29 and i think everyone is not telling me the REAL deal. I think I'm thinning a bit, but I get a blank look from people when I ask, then they tell me everything looks fine and no big deal. My friend made a comment so I believe him, but I need some other opinions. I have been shaving my head for about 3-4 years now because i like it shaved and I realized that everyone seems to really dig it too. I shave it myself so I have this little mirror to get the back of my head. I started letting it grow back recently and I figured I would take a look back there and see what was going on and low and behold i found some skimpy patches! I couldn't believe it - I've always had HUGE THICK hair when it would grow out, now i got this little patch in the back. I was in shock. When my head is shaved you don't see thinning - no crappy patch or anything.

I took some ok pictures and the area looks ok, but it looks FAR WORSE under a bright light. I don't know what my father / grandfather looks like so I have no reference point. My mom has all her hair that's all I know.

I guess I'm approaching a 3v on that Norwood scale thing. I have hair all over my damn head, except in that patch on the top/back.

I have been reading about finasteride, minoxidil, but it sounds a bit hardcore. Not sure what to do here. I also read nizoral is light on side effects - I know that everyone reacts differently, but does nizoral have the capability of getting the job done on it's own? That patch has also been slightly itchy, nothing crazy unbearable, but I bought some tea tree oil shampoo - I heard that's good stuff.

Any advice or confirmation of my path of beginning baldness would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: just turned 29

definite crown loss, not that bad for 29. finasteride would clear that right up 3-4 months. no more "hardcore" then birth control, and i know a lot of girls who don't mind taking that.

Re: just turned 29

You need to get on proscar/propecia asap! You have major thinning on the crown your friend was correct. I don't mean to sound blunt but your lighting isn't that harsh and even in that lighting you can clearly see thethinning. The follicles still look alive! You also have a very good hairline and temples even more reason to get on treatment. You have hair loss where the medication works best! I would advise getting proscar cutting it into 4th's and getting on either rogaine foam or liquid, I suggest the foam as since you've never been on rogaine before the foam would be most convenient for you. I would also ditch the tea tree oil get Nizoral 2 % use it 3 X a week 5 minutes and you are set! Nizoral will not work by itself your thinning is too far gone for just nizoral. I know your friend hurt your feelings, but he did you a major favor as others were lying to you. I remember when I first was told I was getting thin back there, I was drinking with a friend at a bar he said hey " It's getting thin back there" I was like get out of here it's just the way my hair is combed and such, little behold he was right, not only that I had a thinning of the hairline too. May of '03 I started the big 3 I have more hair now than I did then ( by a lot). Our family can be our worst enemy they love us, they don't want to hurt us but by not saying the truth, with hair loss the earlier you catch it the better chance you have at getting better results. You my friend can get good results, yes depressing but the rest of your hair is fine and with medication you will likely keep that! I know many will tell you on here they would kill to be in your position! Good luck and be strong you will get good results, don't worry about side effects they are very over done here, and at 29 very unlikely propecia will affect your libido that much.

Re: just turned 29

Thank you for taking the time to read my post and to reply - it is MUCH appreciated. Honest feedback is what I was looking for, so thank you. Nuttyrich - similar thing happened to me. I was with a friend at a bar, I dropped my keys on the floor and when I got up he was kind of half laughing and I was like what?! Then he told me what was up. I was feeling kind of bad about it because it caught me by surprise, but reality is reality - now it's time to step up to the plate and get to work.

So I am going to get on what you have suggested. After the Proscar is cut into 1/4's do I take that everyday? Every other day? How does that work? I read that at a high dose it increases the risk for an aggressive type of prostate cancer - this doesn't happen with Propecia. Is it because Propecia is sold as 1mg and proscar 5mg? I'm assuming that's the reason why. Cancer in general runs in my family so it's something I'm a bit concerned with.

Also, has anyone used this site before? http://www.medicalwellnesscenter.com/

Thanks again guys. Once I get rolling I plan on taking pictures at the end of each month to document what's going on.

Re: just turned 29

Every day, realize Proscar is VERY safe at 5 MG's it's how "Propecia" was discovered it was given to men with prostate problems, side effect, hair growth! So they studied and saws what was the lowest dosage that worked and came up with 1 mg, so the 5 MG is the same just if you cut it into 4th's you save a ton. Actually proscar was maybe shown to reduce a certain cancer. Take it every day, remember you have tons of support here. Proscar has been around forever and is studied extensively. Propecia is 1 mg Proscar is 5 mg, but same ingredient, so you buy the 5 MG and cut in into 4th's saving a ton. Proscar is GIVEN for an enlarged prostate at 5 mg. Good luck you won't regret it~!

All the best,
Rich

Re: just turned 29

Thank you for all of the information guys! So here is an update:

So I started to use Nizoral this week and today I went to the doctor. Because I don't know any males in my family including my father and both grandfathers, he said to wait six months and come back to see if the thinning becomes worse within that time. He said I would respond well to Propecia and Rogaine, but he wanted to wait and see what happens before I start on either of them.

I know that most of you think that I should get on something like Proscar ASAP, the Doctor says to wait. What do you guys think of this? Is 6 months too long to wait? I guess if it gets worse quick I can go in there and show him whats up. I did get an online prescription for Proscar the other day and had it sent to http://rxusa.com/. It felt kind of shady so I went to the Doctor today. I don't want to get fake pills, has anyone used that online pharmacy before?

Also, someone suggested going onto Amazon and getting Minoxidil. What's the difference between this and Rogaine foam?

Thanks for the support and info everyone

Re: just turned 29

Why would you wait if he confirmed that indeed you are thinning, why wait 6 months, you went because you weren't sure and because of family history you felt maybe you weren't starting to lose it. If a doctor tells me " you are thinning" but wait 6 months, I would walk out of his office! Hair loss is not something you "wait on" ask any of the guys here they all wished they started earlier, in fact this is the exact time to start it when you first start thinning best chance to stop the loss and regain what you lost!I would NOT buy from that pharmacy they redirect you to another site, seems very shady to me so much they want to you to think your "Prescription" is coming from the US, when in fact they REDIRECT the url to another site which screams scam and well they ship from Indiaso don't be thrown off by the rxusa crap!. Don't go the overseas route get a prescription from a local doctor.I don't know about amazon.com.I know you can get brand name rogaine 3 month supply for like $35 From amazon), but if you are going generic you can buy anywhere. Liquid is what is it Liquid takes a long time to dry you use a dropped supplied. FOAM well is minoxidil in FOAM typical to how mousse is and you just rub it on and it dries very quickly, there is NO generic to that but you can try ebay and if you buy enough you can get it for about $10 a can (in bulk).

Good luck,
Rich
