Where to start on my hairloss journey?

Hey guys, so my hairloss situation started about a year ago. Actually, looking back at photos from 3+ years ago, you could see it starting a little bit. My hairloss is kind of confusing. It seems like it came on very quickly, but I don't lose many hairs per day. If I take my hand and push it through my hair I might get 2 hairs, it seems like I probably shed 50-75 hairs at most per day.

And I still have a hairline (the curly and lightly colored hair kind of makes it not look like that) it's just pushed back since a year ago. It seems like my whole head is thinning though, but I know the back of my head is still thicker than the rest.

But I don't know where to start. With this kind of hairloss do I do the big three that I've been reading about? Any general feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

I will see one in a couple of weeks.

But I'm pretty sure this isn't Telogen Effluvium. I know there is some miniaturization of the hair, and I doubt Telogen Effluvium makes your hairline move backward. I think it might just be that I just have thin hair on the sides of my head, which might be throwing it off. Not to mention it was noticeable two years ago.

think you should start on the big 3 and then tell us if you have any improvements in 6 months time.

The way you lost it on the sides has to be Telogen Effluvium because it's not normal male pattern baldness. You could be mildly thinning on top in addition to Telogen Effluvium which is making it look worse than it is.

That's what happened to me, I was mildly on my crown and I got Telogen Effluvium last year. It affected my whole head.

A lot of people who have male pattern baldness suffer from thinning, but not total loss, on the sides of the head. It may or may not be Telogen Effluvium.

If you see miniaturization though, it's probably male pattern baldness. Is there receding hairline/thinning on both sides of your family? Most importantly, grandfathers and your own dad?

My bet is just male pattern baldness that happened to thin on the sides. I bet that finasteride + minoxidil combined would help you out a lot.

How common are miniaturized hairs supposed to be during male pattern baldness? I seem them rarely.

My Dad is bald, and his Dad was bald. My other Grandfather has a full head of hair. Also, I did damage my hair for a year a half before the receding was visible, so that probably played a role in speeding up the hairloss.

Bumping because I had an interesting observation. Also, I did not yet go to the dermatologist yet, I just wanted some comments from people who know about hairloss.

I was just checking up what constitutes a miniaturized hair, so I did a test. I know that there is some loss in my temples so I checked my temples seeing as it would be a good place to see miniaturization. I cut two hair follicles out where it was very sparse, and I compared them with hairs all over my head; they were exactly the same. So I don't know what that means. Obviously I'm still hoping it's Telogen Effluvium, I know I have male pattern baldness, there would be no other reason for the recession of the temples, but I don't know if my hair will come back.

And yes, I know a dermatologist will tell me all of this, but I don't have the money right now. So I just wanted some kind of comments on my situation, because it's not easy dealing with this at the age of 21.

I actually looked back at a few photos (from three years ago) and I could see thinning on the sides of my head. But this 'all over' hair loss got a lot worse about a year and a half ago.

But I assume there was a good reason for the thinning at that time, I had been straightening my hair for a good year without protecting it. Not to mention I had very curly hair so I would straighten it pin straight (don't ask me why I did it, it was obviously a stupid phase). But now that the loss has stayed, I'm not too sure it was really at fault.

There are a few bald people in my family, my dad, his dad, couple of uncles, couple of cousins. I can tell that my brother is starting to thin, too.

And I have yet to consult with any professional about my situation.
