When to begin minoxidil?

Hey all!

I've been taking Propecia for just over 2.5 months. I understand that combining Propecia with minoxidil often results in a synergy greater than the sum of its parts. However, I've also learned that minoxidil can bring its own "shedding" period and that overlap of two shedding phases brought about by two different treatments is not advisable. Considering I've been on Propecia for a bit over 2.5 months and that I may not be finished with its so-called "shedding" phase, is it advisable to begin minoxidil at this time? If not, when would likely be considered safe to add it to my regimen?

I appreciate any advice!

PS: This is in reference to temple hair loss and recession.

Hey there, its interesting the way you have approached that as I never thought to avoid a'combined shed'. The problem is that you may experience your shed several times as the hair grows in cycles, you begin taking your medications and your head kicks out some of the duds and then hopefully grows them back stronger, this can happen many times or it may not really happen at all, it varies so much that im not sure you can really control them. Who knows, you might have a finasteride shed, start minoxidil and have a minoxidil shed, and end up in a terrifying never ending cycle of sheds! But I doubt it very much, just parodying the degree of sensationalisation i see on these forums sometime!

This synergystic effect is caused by the drugs acting in totally different ways. minoxidil stimulates hair follicles for regrowth, finasteride inhibits DHT increasing your chance for maintanence, the reason you get the synergy is that you are providing minoxidil air support for finasteride aka your boots on the ground. Anytime you are losing your hair and not taking one of these drugs, ultimately your hair is the collateral damage!

I should say, Im not an expert, Im just someone who got on the big 3 in one go, experienced a very slight increase in hair loss for 3 months and now at 8 months have more hair in the frontal area of my head than i have for years, I say go for it but thats just one mans opinion, good luck.

Dont waste your time, start minoxidil NOW ! and add Nizoral 2% keto everyday ! ;) And remember,if you are shedding now..and if you notice second shedding,remember..it's for good ! That means minoxidil is working, dont count hairs... shedding is not bad,it's just nature.Dont count hairs, take photos and that's all.I am shedding hard now for about 80-140 hairs when i am taking bath,it's the second shedding for me..last time i was shedding like that i thought..god after 2 months i will be completely bald..but i had an amazing regrowth..but stopped minoxidil and now i am shedding bad..so i restarted it..listen to me,dont waste your time, start it NOW ! twice a day,and add nizoral ! that's all.i am quit.
