When/should I Start Applying Rogaine?

Hi guys so i have some quick questions about hair loss and rogaine. My biggest question with rogaine is what happens if i apply to much or get some in areas that don't need regrowth? should I just apply it to all areas that are likely to go bald or only if they show signs of thinning? Currently I'm 24 years old and about 5 months ago I noticed my hairline had receded and was starting to look a little thin. When I looked at old pictures of myself (within 2 years) you can notice my hairline had receded but the hairline was incredible thick. Now its starting to thin... I know rogaine is really only meant for application to the crown however I have read people have had success to a thinning hairline and receded temples. I'm not expecting my temples to come back but would like the thickness of my hair again. Only about 2 people have ever pointed out my hair has been thinning but the vast majority don't even notice. This is eating away at my self confidence and I am constantly stressing about how people might see through my scalp. Also I've read the shedding phase happens with rogaine. Generally how bad is it?? will people notice? If i start using rogaine and stop will it speed up the process if I show no results?

Here are some pictures.

Apply to the areas that are thinning.
If you apply too much it is fine.
If you get some in non balding areas it too is fine.
The shed can be horrendous, but this is what is supposed to happen. Based on your pictures people should not notice.
Some use a derma roller once a week to help increase effectiveness.
In the mean time you can use some sort of hair concealer if it is destroying your self confidence and you want some coverup while you are treating the area. Such as Toppik or an alternative for the hairline.

Yeah try finasteride for a year first with nizoral few times a week. Reasess your hair after that year and whether or not to use minoxidil. I jumped on minoxidil and finasteride at the same time and regret it.

what made you regret it?

it thinned my hair, i was only on it for 3/4 months but it was noticeable. now i have to wait 6/7 months to return to baseline. Wish i had just taken finasteride for a year by itself and then assesed whether or not to add minoxidil to the mix. i would suggest this for most people now.
