This is really embarrassing but I had to ask for help sooner or later. This stuff won't wash away and you guys will probably disagree but I really believe this stuff, whatever it is, has made my hair fall out a lot faster. I notice wherever it is most concentrated is where I've lost the most hair. I'm 21 years old. No friends. Never had a girlfriend. My dog that I've had since I was 9 died last month and I'm at rock bottom. I just really don't know what to do. I'm also unemployed so I can't pay for anything to treat my hair loss (what a life huh?). I'm hoping someone here at least knows what this is so I can at least treat the nasty stuff on my scalp.

hi! not an expert here but it looks like eczema or pityriasis amiantacea (don't ask me what they are ! I just did google search!! )..so you should look them up! I am not sure where you are but where I live, if you are a university student, you can get a free consultation with a campus GP. Anyway just go and see your doctor to have them checked! (it is only $20 to $30) ...Good luck!!

Thanks for the reply. I googled the pityriasis amiantacea and it definitely looks similar to what I have. It's scary because in the google images, it looks like people lose hair the most where it's most concentrated, which is what I think has been happening with me. It also makes me think that the pityriasis is definitely the main reason for my accelerated hair loss based on reading the wiki page of it. Wow. I've been getting this stuff for years now I think and its gotten worse over the last year and I always thought it was just shampoo/conditioner residue but now I see it can potentially be something completely different. What if I just had this checked out years ago and gotten it fixed and it would have never accelerated my hair loss? I could have had all/most of my hair maybe. Holy crap I'm stupid.

Is a doctor who you go to for hair? What about a dermatologist? I haven't been to the doctor in years (like 4 I think), my mom never took me so I don't actually have "a doctor". Are you sure its that cheap to go?

You should be using at least an anti-fungal shampoo for now.

On wikipedia they say to use a coal tar shampoo but maybe Nizoral should work just as well. You need to check with a dermatologist as soon as possible, that looks crazy.

Looks like what new born babies have (cradle cap) never seen it in an adult. If I were you, I'd buy selenium sulphide shampoo 2%, more potent that Ketoconazole but without the benefits of a mild anti-androgen.

Thanks guys. How much does going to a dermatologist usually cost? What would be a way to find the best one in my area (Miami, Florida)? Guess I should go to one before I buy any shampoo.

If I were you, I would see a GP first. Ask you mum who your GP is. Seeing a GP is much easier, faster and cheaper! (it takes a few weeks to months to make an appointment with a dermatologist here). if your GP can't figure out what that is, he/she will have you see a dermatologist.

This does not look like any shampoo residue and you should have taken steps to take care of it long time ago. This board is not a good place for such, seemingly advanced condition-deep yellow pigmented and large area. It might be fungus infection. You must see a physician. You can apply for Medicaid if eligible. Any local or city hospital has financial office that will apply it for you depending on income and if your state offers one. Be smart, and do search on Medicare if Florida offers one and find out the income cut off etc. Alternatively, call several hospitals in your area and ask them if they see patients on sliding income scale with reduced cash fee. Without insurance, the best bet would be to go to your local/city government hospital, not private ones, and make an appointment with a Physician. Visit the place, find out about their reduced cash fee which could be as low as $15 a visit. You will need to see the physician first who will refer you to the Specialist for further diagnosis. Where I am, the city hospitals are quite generous and charge only $15 or $20 from uninsured and with low income-the income whatever they declare and they do not verify or anything, just would put you in their reduced fee plan. My city also offers subsidized/free private insurance to low income residents where they can go to even private hospitals with almost no co-pay. But the income requirement is really low and if verifiable, then most residents do not qualify-but that's a different story. I would find out what the deal is in Miami by calling the city hotline. Also, if you have any issues, such as, you can not provide SS# or other identity documentation, then city owned hospital would be the best bet. In addition, there are also small clinics/medical centers that cater to uninsured for very low fee without asking much for their documentations.
