What's The Authenticity Of The Claim That A Person Loses 50 To 100 Hair Strands Everyday?

I've read on many websites that a person loses 50 to 100 hair strands per day. At first, I didn't believe it. But when I started my Bicalutamide treatment, I experienced a massive shedding phase for around 5 months, when I was losing 150-200 hairs everyday. I knew that it was a part of my anti-androgen therapy. Then that phase went away and I was shedding only 15-20 hairs a day (most of those in the shower).
But today, I lost around 400 hair strands while washing my hair. The only thing that was different today was that day before yesterday, I added menthol crystals (obtained from peppermint essential oil) to the castor oil that I always use. And I left the oil in my hair until today morning when I washed it with my shampoo. The only reason why I left the oil for 40 hours in my hair is that it's very thick and doesn't absorb well without microneedling, absorption enhancers or prolonged exposure. And oral intake is hypertrichotic, which is so undesirable for me.
Besides, I'm not shedding any hair now. Seems like I lost all of my telogen hairs.
Is there a possibility that the shedding was because of the menthol crystals?
Is there anything else that could've caused this shed?
Is the 'losing 100 hairs a day' claim true?

Maybe not 100, but losing like 50 is pretty normal, my mother loses that much in 2 or 3 brushes during the day, and she's not balding

My mother loses around 100 a day in 2 to 3 brushes. I don't know if she's balding or not, because I found this out recently, but she didn't used to lose this much a few years back. Perhaps she's close to her menopause.

I used to think 100 hairs per day was excessive, but now that I've grown my hair out a bit and actually notice most of the hairs that fall out, 100 is probably plausible. Either that or my hairloss is super aggressive.

Yeah, even I grew my hair out just to make sure that I get to notice the shed. But instead of further thinning, I observe thickening/increase in density every month.

You're lucky. My hair is too fine to look good with any length. It just falls flat and gets greasy fast.

My hair is fine beyond imagination. It stays flat, but doesn't get greasy. I've never had scalp sebum in my entire life. But my hair is so fine that I'll need to join five to seven wet strands to create the diameter of a single strand of my mom's hair.

Yup. Same here. It's a struggle. Just means any hairloss we have looks 5 times worse.

Not always. Since you have long hair just like me, you can try backcombing (a lot!) to create a massive volume and get a more messy bedhead look.

True. It's a struggle with regards to finding the right products for fine hair, though.

My hair does fluff up pretty good tbf. Wish I could slick my hair back. It looks awful and makes me look like I'm balding so bad.

Can you show me what you hair and hairline look like? And of course, crown as well.

If you were a good observer you would not have questioned authenticity of this claim. We do loose near 100 hairs a day.that is pretty normal.

I don't think so. It's because I have my hair packed in a plastic shower cap all day, and there's no hair in it. I only lose hair right before shower when I run a comb through it and it's not more than 10. And finally after the shower, I barely find any hair clogging the drain (provided I have very long hair for a boy), they're mostly less than 5. And when I brush it after its dry, I mostly lose less than 10 hairs. On shampoo days, you can increase the number of hairs clogging the drain from 5 to 15, but that barely makes any difference, I am nowhere close to 100. After brushing, I put on my shower cap again.

Taken today. Need to wash it as it's hot so has become oily.

Taken today:
Firstly, I don't think that your hair is long. I'd rather prefer calling it medium size, owing to the fact that your sides are very very short, almost comparable to buzzed, or at least looks like that in the pictures.
Secondly, I think that scene-like side-swept heavy bangs would look great on you. You can also try hair building fibres if you want to slick it back. The even get attached to vellus hairs.

It's long for me. I used to have it really short. And yea, my sides are buzzed to a 0, then faded up.

I might look into fibres. The thought of it raining and then running down my face scares me.

On a side note, what Norwood do you think I am? Am I a lost cause for a 25yr old? :/

Looks like a Norwood 3 to me. And no, you're not a lost cause.
At one point, my crown used to look extremely terrible for a 18 year old boy. But then, I started treating it moving from Finasteride and Spironolactone to Bicalutamide. Now, I'm sure that Bicalutamide was the best decision in my life. I'll wait till Darolutamide, Enzalutamide or Apalutamide become affordable and available to me.

3?? Lol No way is my hairloss that advanced. I've been on finasteride since December and it's destroyed my hairline. It used to be straight. The only reason I started on finasteride was because of crown thinning.

Wait, sorry, now that I look more closely, I realize that it's Norwood 2.
I'm sorry that I don't have much idea about the Norwood scale, since I have my perfect juvenile hairline, which is pretty low in my opinion and I love it.

Lol I literally sh*t my pants when you said NW3. My temple recession isn't that bad.

My hairloss is exacerbated by having fine hair and a naturally ridiculously high hairline (see attached pic of when I was a kid). You're at least lucky to start of with a low hairline. You've got more room to play with.
