What to do? Try Rogaine or not?

If any of you are familiar with my story you will know that I have been driving myself absolutely nuts over the decision to try Rogaine or not.

I'm 43 and have severe thinning throughout the entire male pattern baldness area. My worst area is directly behind my hairline, directly at the top front of my head. (odd location). I have some thinning at the rear of the crown. (typical area). Funny thing is that my hair seems to thicken back up at the immediate top area between the front and rear thinning areas.

I have been on finasteride (proscar 1/4 daily) for 15 months now. I use 1% keto (occasionally 2%) and an assortment of thinning shampoos. All in all I believe my hair has thinned beyond what it was 15 months ago. I have never had any major sheds. I continue to see maybe 4-5 hairs while shampooing and maybe the same when combing, but that's about the worst of it. finasteride may be slowing my loss but it surely isn't stopping it.

So, back to the question. My bad thinning area at the front is extremely embarrassing and near impossible to hide. I look at guys all day long with thinning hair and never see anyone with my type of pattern. It just seems weird to have a 1/4" thick hairline, then severe thinning right behind it. part of me wants to try Rogaine since I read so much about how it works well for diffuse. Problem is, if I shed anymore hair in that bad area I will be forced to shave just to look somewhat normal. I also read stories of people trying Rogaine, loosing hair, and it never growing back. That situation for me would basically mean a complete shave.

I'm killing myself over this decision. I'm hoping someone can chime in here and offer some advice that will convince me to try it or not. Very scared and undecided.

It's a decision that you have to make yourself. I'm sure that you have read a whole heap of posts on Rogaine, so you know the risks that you are taking (eg. shedding), when starting rogaine. There is also the hassle of having to apply twice a day, every day.

Regrowing hair is a VERY slow process. Like me, you probably noticed your hair getting worse rapidly, and want something to restore it fast. But unfortunately it won't happen overnight.

I've been on rogaine for 4 months now and I had a lot of small hairs sprout. But even the longest ones are only about half an inch long and still very thin and light coloured. I am hoping that they will start to darken soon, but as of yet there has not been an improvement in my hairs overall appearance.
