Everywhere on my head is thin , apart from the nape of my neck. It is even thinner directly behinf my ear? I've never seen this on someone , especially don't expect to see it on someone this young (19). I can't classify this as diffuse because my crown is going faster and my hairline is receded. Has anyone else significantly lost hair behing and around their ears?

Sounds like Telogen Effluvium. I could be wrong though. Telogen Effluvium makes you thin all over your head in non male pattern baldness areas included. Balding areas in Telogen Effluvium can come out looking worse in Telogen Effluvium. Have you got any pics? There could be other causes to this problem. Thyroid, genetics etc. Some people just go bald in strange places (i am losing side burns wtf) but around the ears is quite unusual.

Well , I've been losing my sideburns as well. Actually they are completely thin. I've had my bloods tested ages back and it they came back normal. I don't know what he checked.

Actually , in response to the first post I think it might actually be DUPA.

Actually it's not. If you see diffuse thinners they eventually become thin all over. Especially if they get their hair cut short. It's not DUPA because DUPA does not respond to medications. Plus DUPA is extremely rare to the point of 1 to 2% of men get it.

This is an example of DUPA

is he responding to meds though if hes complaining about sides and hair going thin all over??/

it may be DUPA or it could just be overall diffuse thinning. By the time ud realise you have dupa anyways ud be nw7. Same sh*t really. as obsidina says ..most diffuse thinners go thin at sides so its really a bad catch22.

Why wouldn't it be DUPA/DPA?

I honestly can't say that the meds have helped me out at all. My hair is thinning all over but includes a receded hairline and thinning crown. My Mother's father is the highest Norwood possible and by the looks of it he started loosing his hair very young. I get inflammation behind my ears aswell.

My sideburns are completely thin and my sides are thin all the way back. Maybe it's a mixture of Telogen Effluvium and male pattern baldness brought about by the extreme stress I've been experiencing lately. I've heard male pattern baldness and Telogen Effluvium can co-exist in many cases.
