hey guys i was just wondering what kind of hairloss would be categorized under the "forceful pulling" category.

when you buy minoxidil, it says it can't regrow hair loss due to forceful pulling. could anyone give me a few examples of these?

also, when i style my hair, i tend to go for that messy look using wax, clay, etc... sometimes hair falls out and sticks to my fingers and the sink but it's no big deal because those would have fallen out anyway. BUT SOME FALL OUT DUE TO THE WAX on my hand and it feels as if i pulled it out while i was styling my hair! these hurt like a b**ch!

my question is, will these hairs grow back normally and as thick as they were?

i really freakin hope so.

thanks for reading guys peace

Trichotillomania

The name of a psychological condition which results in an obsession with plucking or pulling on one's own body or scalp hair. There are several problems that can result from this activity, and the psychology behind it can be confusing. Commonly treatable in children, adults with this condition rarely recover.

thanks BHD but i already read this article over 5 times.

im just curious if the hair "pulled out" due to styling is considered as forceful pulling.

yeah i think i have some variation of this "disease" damnit! whenever i see a hair fall out due to something else pulling on it i get worried and i keep pulling that spot of hair just to check if any more hairs will fall out..

f*** how can i stop this other than chopping my hands off?

thanks for helping guys

sounds like a nervous tick or mild obsessive behaviour, common in young kids, I think I remember allways shaking my head to check if I had a headache or not when I was a kid, LOL!!

In answer to your question, stop using gels and clays that pull your hair out, when you feel the need to 'test' the area to see if any more of these hairs will come out do something else (needs to be tactile like sticking your nails in soap or bursting some bubble wrap) the habit will subside with time.

wear a hat to prevent you from pulling your hair

ehh i tried that but wearing a hat is uncomfortable for me and makes my hair smell like sh*t. it also causes a lot of itching[/quote]

I've often wondered about the forceful pull issue myself, considering sometimes when I style my hair it hurts a bit sometimes, I often wonder if I'm doing any long term damage.

Telogen hair is going to come out no matter how lightly or roughly you pull. That's a given. The big concern would be for the other hair. But I think that if you've got fairly healthy hair, then you don't have much to worry about.

yeah damn i dont know... i see some guys get pissed and like they literally yank on their hair hard... yet nothing falls out.

for me even a simple and gentle brushing leads to at least 30 hairs falling out even after i freakin shower... what the hell?
