What stage am I in?

I've been worried about my thin hair and hairline for a few years now. But recently, I became panic stricken over it.

I am 28 years old. Not only do I believe my hair is thinning, but I also have a TON of gray already (started in my mid-to-late-teens).

The panic started after I took some pictures of myself. In the mirror and reflections of glass, yeah, my hair looks pretty thin. In pictures, it looks so bad, I am afraid by looking out them, my hair could fall out right then and there out of sheer stress and anxiety.

I recently got a hair cut and asked the lady cutting if I am balding and she said no. Family has a million excuses other than "yeah, you are balding". So it's like I cannot get an honest answer from anyone.

I've been using Rogaine and Nizoral for 8 days now. About two days ago, I have noticed the "dread shed" and my hair does look a bit thinner (could be mind over matter?). The hairs that are shedding seem to be little tiny ones.

Anyway, I am posting pictures of my hair BEFORE I've started using the above mentioned products.

Here are also some random facts that may or may not be of importance:

1. I think I've always had what we in the family called the "Dracula Hairline", which I believe I got from my grandfather on my dad's side.

2. Early in life, I had hair twirling issues which resulted in my parents getting me buzz cuts, because I was making clean bald spots on my head. But this was early.

3. Last year I started a diet and pretty much have only drank Seltzer and Diet Snapple. I've read Aspartame could cause hair loss, so today is the last day I am touching it.

4. I've always had pretty fine hair.

5. I never got regular trims or haircuts.

Perhaps there is some truth in your assumption there, pal.

Reassurance? Sure would be nice to hear people say I am not balding.

But I believe the pics (corrected) may suggest otherwise.

ok im proven wrong. U r losing it. my suggestions:

cut ur hair short, hairloss is obvious when its long, and long hair seems to put alot of stress on it anyway, perhaps its the weight.

wat shampoo/conditioner do u use? i bet it has SLS in it, ur hair seems thin and brittle. I suggestion nizoral 2% twice a week, and something natural from a healthfood shop the other days.

Then think about treatments.

BUT i'd like to remind u, i had exactly the same hairloss pattern when i had long hair, and 15 yrs later, i havent progressed too much. Im still norwood 2.5
so it might recede then stop.

I'm going to keep my hair long, even if I have one hair left and it looks terrible. It may look bad, but I think a short hair cut or shaved would be worse. I've been told I am ugly with a shaved head and I agree. I have huge ears, haha.

I've been using Nizoral, btw. I started using it along with Rogaine 8 days ago.

I am also just taking better care of my hair.

I am also thinking it might be the haircut I got not too long ago. When she was cutting my hair, it felt like she was tugging and cutting it with a razor.

Probably felt like that because it was'nt as thick as previously, and hairloss is genetic it happens from the follicle (under the skin) not above it. Shampoo's wont cause or cure male pattern baldness.
