...Since then, I've been listening to classical music exclusively.

...I listen to classical, because accidentally I heard some in a rock song, it was my favourite part, I found out much later that it was a Chopin scherzo, so I downloaded it. From then onwards I just couldn't stop, there was a massive world I hadn't explored, and I still am.

WOW!! You're alright, Hammy! :)

I just _love_ the Chopin scherzos, all four of them (I'm not counting the ones that are individual movements of the sonatas). Which specific scherzo is it that you liked so much? My own favorite is the very first one (in B-minor, if I remember correctly). Chopin was only 21 years old when he wrote it, and it's a masterpiece.

For me, Mozarts' Requiem, Beethovens' Moonlight Sonata movements, Handels work, Rachmaninovs' Prelude....to name a few - evoke emotions in me of such power I wasn't til then aware that music could achieve.

Which Rachmaninov prelude is it that you like so much? He wrote a pile of them...

But now, I hear and feel it on such a profound level, as though the composers' soul becomes intertwined with mine - for a brief few minutes two people seperated by centuries meet in an abstract entanglement that crosses time and space.

Damn...I know EXACTLY what you mean!! :)

@Bryan

Same one, Scherzo no.1 op.20.

B minor....is usually the standard for it, havn't heard a different one, would be interesting to hear.

Rachmaninov Prelude, op.3 no.2, op23 no.5 and no.3.....among many others.

The Russian player Nikolai Lugansky in my opinion interprets his work perfectly...some even dare think better than Rachmaninov himself. Ashkenazy thereafter.

Op.3 no.2....I was with some University fiends in a chic cafe in the evening, heard that being played in the background. I was in a daze, forgot where I was. The bustle, chatter and ambiance seemed to compliment it rather than distract. Contrasting moods funnily enough made the music stand out. It was a while later I re-heard it on a documentary, I said to myself "Oh my God, that's that music!"....so I actually waited until the credits, e-mailed the guy responsible for the music, and he told me.

It's a testament to a man long dead to influence people in such a way, without any words.

You should also listen to the second one, the one in B-flat minor, opus 31. It's probably the most famous of all the scherzos, and is the most frequently performed!

Numbers 3 and 4 are also very good (I especially like number 3), but they aren't as popular with the general public as numbers 1 and 2, or as well-known.

Heheh... The op. 3 no. 2 prelude was the second piece of piano music that I learned to play as a kid! :)

Wednesday 13's vocalist (called Wednesday 13 lol) was in a better known band called murderdolls with slipknot drummer Joey Jordison basically murderdolls broke up and Wednesday 13 formed Wednesday 13 (named after himself)

Might as well post some notables:

- ROCK -

Eve to Adam - Found this band in 2007 and their CD "Queens to Eden" was badass.

[youtube:1fjve6r2]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljO3ygpWGes[/youtube:1fjve6r2]

Seether - Obviously an awesome band. Notice how Shaun sounds phenomenal live.

[youtube:1fjve6r2]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX0WYr_vviM[/youtube:1fjve6r2]

Hellyeah - My boy holding it down. One of the few screamers I like... mellow jam here, though.
