Yeah so this is going to be my first haircut in a WHILLLLLEEEE (I would usually just shave my head) and i wanted some tips on what the f*** to ask for?

I'm so out of the loop on hairstyles it's embaressing. I've got pretty deep temporal recession should i just ask for short on the sides longer on the top? Im clueless here.

I think you are better off getting a short haircut (sides and back) with a little longer on top (about an inch or so).
Then use wax or any other styling product.

If you are receding, short styled hair looks better than those guys who try to pull strands across their temples.

I have a receding hairline and I go for a grade 1 buzzcut. I think it looks all right and people say I suit it. You should give that a try. However, if you want a longer hairstyle then you'll have to go for the Jack Nicholson/Nicholas Cage look.

I'm currently 23 and have had a receding hairline since 17, so I've become a master at the receding haircuts.

If your hair is still thick on top, but your hairline is just receded, then you can pull off just about any cut. Seriously.

When my hair was still thick with the receding hairline, I would grow it longer on top and brush hair over the temples and spike the front. Kept the sides short. My hairloss was virtually undetectable.

I also did the longer/shaggy style for awhile too (didnt look as good though)

If you're thinner, try some toppik on top with short sides. You can still pull off a good look.

If you are really thin then you may just have to go short and admit to the world that you have nice big temples. (where im at now :firing: (Temples)

WHAT????? NO WAY

maybe if you're in your 50's... but if you're going to do that you may as well just buzz it

Buzz the sides and the back with #1 clip and tell the barber to keep the hair finger-length on top and to fade into the sides. Works perfect every time. I usually feel like a million bucks after a hair cut.

edit: if you want to style your hair definitely use wax. I use Redken for men sculpting wax.

Yeah it's going to be really hard for a 19 year old to pull off that slicked back look unless the temple recession is really minimal. Anyway before my hair started to diffuse like crazy I had it cut at about medium length and kind of messed it up with my hands in the front and on the top. That covered up the temples pretty well.

if you've still got some thickness in the middle part i'd ask for a faux hawk style which virtually all barbers would be familiar with.. that will give you longer hair in the center which you can use to cover the temples

That is quickly becoming such a trendy tired hair cut...

Its like a tribal tattoo..

Thanks for the suggestions. I dont think faux hawk is really 'me' per se. Man i wish i actually gave a sh*t about hairstyles before male pattern baldness, maybe i'd know something.

Not a good look for a 19 year old. But if you're a thick receeder, about 1 inch will a bit of gel to give a bit of volume

Tom Ford looks awesome. One of the group who are blatently receeding but look better with hair than they would with a buzz cut. And one of the few who doesn't need to worry about it, it gives him the 'distinguished' look and he could still have any women on the planet regardless of his money.
