What Is The Alternative Drug To Original Propecia?

I bought the medicine Propecia from my doctor, he's selling at approx. USD 55 a pack of 28 pills for 28 days

I think it's quite expensive for me . He said there are cheaper options but his attitude refused to tell me the name. He only suggested me to buy alternative from better pharmaceutical brand. if I insist to buy something otherwise than original Propecia.

1. Can anyone suggest a cheaper option but from better pharmaceutical brand that I can place my bet on it?
If it's only a $5-$10 cheaper for a month than I see no reasons trying something otherwise.

2. Is it safe to buy from US Amazon?

Can you talk to him about Proscar (which is the same as propecia it's just they come in 5mg tablets) and just cut the pills into quarters? That's what I do.
