What happens after finasteride stops working?

Hey everyone I realize the answer to this question might differ from person to person but is there any scientific research to say what happens when the finasteride you have been taking starts to wear off on your body? I see it as 3 different paths: 1) Your hair goes back to what it was BEFORE you started finasteride. 2) Your hair falls on the point of the timeline your hair would have been if it had naturally been balding during the time you were on finasteride. 3) Your hair pretends like you pressed the pause button for however long the finasteride actually worked and then again balds but at a normal pace.

If there is no scientific research to answer my questions then I need some finasteride veterans on here to tell me their anecdotes to what happened to them after it slowly started to wear out, or even just what a friend or family member experienced would help. Im just trying to get some ideas!

Thank you!

Also as a side question my doctor prescribed me Proscar as a finasteride but my pharmacy filled it as Dr. Reddy's Finax. Ive heard good things about Proscar and not so helpful things about Finax (even tho I realize they are technically the same thing).. do you guys think I should take it back and ask for only the Proscar? Or is this too far. I feel like I want to be consistent with which pill I will be receiving. Also I mean he prescribed me Proscar so I guess I have the right to take it back..? What should I do?

switch to something stronger than finasteride or lose your hair if it wears off one day

finasteride doesn't wear off completely if one day your hair loss overcomes the effects of finasteride you will just lose your hair slowly

doesn't matter whether your taking finax or proscar at all

i dont know about the question you have posed( i wish its 3 :D). . but if getting proscar is not an issue on a long term basis then go for it, trust me if for any reason things dont work out the issue would be always at the back of your head thinking what if i had changed the brand. having said that if you cant get proscar, i dont think you should be worried abt finax, dr reddys is a pharma company with a good rep in India, and one of our biggest exports are pharma products which in way a say a few things about the competence of indian pharmas like cipla , dr reddy , ranbaxy etc.

since i havent even started finasteride yet im assuming I'll have a good amount of years I at least can maintain on it (and hopefully there will be more treatments by then) but what treatments are stronger than finasteride so I can get an idea for later

I don't think there is any scientific research regarding your question, but in theory hair loss would become faster in the *current stage*.

I am using Finasteride for 3-4months then 2-weeks of rest (since 2010). This would help my body to get rid of Finasteride metabolites and build new enzymes to increase DHT level for few days. The result is my body haven't get used to Finasteride, Also I haven't experienced major Side Effects.

How long have been using that method of taking finasteride? Have you been keeping your hair? Have you experienced any regrowth?

Its been almost 4-years. I don't say I had amazing regrowth but I have managed to effectively slow the hair loss. Although I've been losing hair (and sudden) from age 17-18 but now I only have thinning in my vertex area (see pic: http://www.hairlosstalk.com/interac...-losing-hair?p=1174190&viewfull=1#post1174190)

I really hope it never stops working, is there any evidence that finasteride definitely does stop working? Or that switching to dutasteride will buy you even more time?

I was at an international party at a club in Tokyo last night and I saw two white bald guys scoring with Japanese women. The guys were well into their 30s or maybe 40s mind you, and the women were probably in their 30s, but still, it's not the end. For a younger man trying to chat up younger women it is certainly more of an issue though.

What the **** are you sayiing? If anything, you're doing your body a disservice by altering androgen receptor sensitivities. Just go with every other day dosing.

Finasteride does not stop working, but hair can get weaker, that's usually part of growing up.

Dutasteride is not going to be that much more helpful as well. Minoxidil, dermarolling, retin-A, and any other hair stimulant should keep things in check in stack with finasteride/dutasteride.
