Hi everyone...
Little background - 24, hair has been receding since 18. Currently on dutasteride and nizoral.
Something that has developed since I was about 20, the hair at my temple point and along the side of my head has changed from normal hair to this thick, black, wire like hair as shown in the attached pics.
I'm wondering if anyone has the same kind of hair? Is it just beard hair or it hair somehow affected by dht?
I'm scheduled for a hair transplant (fue) in November; thinking of seeing if the black wire hair can be transplanted from where it is and put it on the patchy parts of my beard.... that is if the black wire hair is not affected by dht.

thanks for any input. SIDEOFHEAD1.jpgSIDEOFHEAD2.jpg

i personally think you're not a good hair transplant candidate. Who is going to be performing this on you? I would heavily rethink this, call tomorrow and cancel.

I think it is crazy to use finasteride because receding and then taking hair OUT of your scalp to fill a patchy beard.
I think there is no "wire-like" hair in you.
I think, like buckthorn said, you are not a good candidate for hair transplant because you have a lot of hair on top; the "shock loss" for existing hair would exceed the implanted hair.

Sorry, let me clarify - I'm getting the hair transplant because I want to fill my temple and have overall increased thickness in the frontal area. The reason I mentioned the black hairs and getting them moved to the beard is only because I find the hairs to look completely out of place and looks rather goofy... and instead of just having them removed; why not have them transplanted to my beard...

Your hair isn't even that bad yet, so if you were to get a hair transplant on your hairline you would need to get another hair transplant in the future when you lose more hair on top.

I'm banking on dutasteride to maintain the hair I have.

Thanks for the reply. Did ALL of your hair turn into wire like black hair?

For me its all or nothing... I want a full head of hair, or if it starts thinning than I say screw it; ill shave it all... annnnnd yes if I have a hair transplant and the rest of my hair falls out im SOL for donor area but again, all or nothing...

Before being on a 5ARI , I noticed my scalp itching in the areas that male pattern baldness occurs and I noticed my hairs turning white and very thin in the itchy spots. Since being on dutasteride, that itch has gone away and I'm seeing way less hairs fall out, even when I put my fingers through my hair now, I'm seeing essentially zero hairs come out. I think ill be able to maintain the hair I have now with dutasteride, and as for shock loss - I figure in 6 months the hairs in the areas ill be getting a hair transplant will be heathier and stronger due to the dutasteride. It's a gamble I know...

Had the blond to dark hair experience. Like my father, my hair turned almost jet black (born blonde).

And this happened in my twenties.

My art teacher in my high school that I died my hair. (She probably did some bad drugs in her day,
so....). But I didn't.

Of course, my hair also receded like my father as well. And turned wire like texture. Not unusual
at all.

Your really going to FU your hair with a hair transplant. Don't do it. Or really reconsider. Because when/if
your vertex hair starts thinning, you are going to be SOL.

Also, you will still have to take medication to save your existing hair, that hasn't fallen
out yet. Life is great...

Did you make a decision? I'd kill for your hairline - I'm in the process of looking at hair transplant currently

The hair transplant is scheduled for november , my plan is to see what the dutasteride does to my hair in the next four months and see from there. If my hair improves or stays the same I ll go through with it. If my hair gets worse I will cancel it and accept I'll be bald.
R u on dutasteride or finasteride?
