I have been a poor thinning bastard for the last four years and after all the hype and hooplah I am still confused about one thing.

What exactly is shedding? Does the hair grow back, is it a good thing.

How does one know whether they are shedding or going bald?

Please help as my comb over is looking way thin.

Redbone, my man! I hope life is treating you well, you fine gentleman.

As for your shedding question, I think the best explanation for it is HairLossTalk.com's, which you can read by clicking on the highlighted word shedding in the text of this post. It's a link to HairLossTalk.com's Shedding Manifesto.

Hope you are doing well!

Good to hear from you Gardner, hope all is well with you to. Not to bad in the hair depo for me a little frontal recession but I guess I can't have it all. This latest shed is pissing me off though.

All was going great after a year on 5% Xandrox and 1mg Propecia, then I started shedding about a month ago. Recently started some new medication for ADHD but both Dr. Lee and my Psych said it would not induce hairloss.

Anyway I added Lee's Shampoo along with Nioxin shampoo and Tricomin spray as well as Gundlach Cabernet, ahh.

I am about 1.5 months into Propecia. and 2.5 months into 5% minoxidil and have been shedding badly at a rate much higher then before I started. The shedding hairs sometimes have a little bulb at the end sometimes not. The shedding hairs appear to be a little lighter then my normal hair color.
It is awful, but I am going to give this treatmant crap a chance. If in a year I see no improvement then I can just accept that I put up a fight and lost. I hope this wil make my poor self image improve.

Same Boat

Johnnie I am in the same boat as you. The only difference is I am using herbals with the minoxidil. I am afraid to give it a whole year - I might not have anything left!

I really can't see minoxidil causing any more permaneant damage then what would have occured naturally do to male pattern baldness. I think you have to get to the one year mark and reevaluate simply because this will allow for a few hair cycles so you can evaluate what is growing back vs. what continues to fallout.

The only good news is, my hairline seems to be stabilizing and not receding anymore. However, the thinning keeps happening and I have yet to see those new hairs poke through yet. *sigh*

My hairline seems to be doing the same thing. I really feel like this is a shed caused by the medicine and is not just a normal shedding do to male pattern baldness. I have no idea what to expect going forward.
I just wish there was more credibility for these companies that produce these products. They are taking advantage of men who are desperate. I am
a perfect canidate for these drugs and I am anxious to see the results or lack there of.
This board has been a great way to get more information, but the negativity and lack of success is still not very encouraging. I guess I can buy the point of view that people who have success just don't come back, but I am very skeptical. I know I would at least check in if I had success just because I would want to comfort those who are starting because I know how hard it is to deal with this. The only encouraging thought is that there are millions of men who have take these drugs and spent thoousands on them. If they truly did not work , then you would think that at this point toomany men would be raising their voice in outrage after spending there hard earned money on products that did nothing.
