Anyone know based on that dosage chart how many mgs it would take daily to inhibit DHT by 10-20 percent? I want to start really small if its possible to cut it like that.

Are you talking about blood serum DHT, or follicular DHT? :dunno:

I think it would be blood serum DHT because that is what finasteride is changing but it seems that would change follicular DHT also because blood flows into the scalp and hair follicles.

I remember reading a study where they tested different doses and recorded the serum and follicular level of dht. finasteride has a flat dose response until you get down to about 0.05mg. At this level it inhibits 50% of dht (serum) and I think it was still around 70% at the follicle... My memory might be a little fuzzy and I dont have time right now to look for the study, I am sure Bryan will know off the top of his head.

This is currently the dosage of finasteride I am taking daily.

I think people put way too much emphasis on blood serum DHT. While a bit of DHT does flow from the blood and then into hair follicles, the most important thing that finasteride does is suppress DHT that's manufactured INSIDE hair follicles. The only reason we bother talking about levels of DHT in the blood stream in the first place is because that's the only easy way we have to measure levels of DHT.

Bryan do you recall the study I spoke of? Do you know if my numbers are correct? In the study I am talking about they must have measured the follicular dht levels too... yet you are saying they are hard to measure? I am confused.

From what I remember the amount that the of dht inhibited in the follicles was more or less the same on different dosages of finasteride...

I think "follicular" levels of DHT are very unreliable (I've talked about this issue in the past). I've seen different studies that varied considerably on how much DHT they reported in such figures! My guess is that it depends on exactly how such experiments are performed. I generally don't put much stock in any study that tells how much "scalp" or "follicular" DHT they measured.

That is ironic, the factor we care about can not be reliably measured :(

I've been taking finasteride for a while now and I've noticed a lot of shedding. What was once not o noticeable thinning has become pretty evident. Would the hair loss be due to finasteride? I know others said it isn't really a big side effect, but keep in mind that I have been on finasteride since march 2 and I was taking 1 mg twice a day for the first week or so before bringing it down to 1 mg once a day.
