I haven't used it long, I don't know. I know it inflames the hell out of red marks, to the point where you think life isn't worth living. Then the redness goes away and it might even reduce the redness. But what I did yesterday is I applied it before going in for IPL. I've been in to get IPL (intense pulsed light) like 8 times before this, and the improvement was okay, but minor. I had a "broken capillary" under my eye when I was younger, and over time it gradually faded, although it was still noticable to me. But while getting a pulsed dye laser to treat this, the doctor, Dr. Padma Jain, who I totally do not recommend, did not zap the spot I asked her to. And little did I know, she was zapping me way too hard. I had bruising for like a month afterwards wherever she zapped me. So after she was done, I see she missed the spot I wanted done most. If not for that spot, I wouldn't have even gone to see her. So, I asked her to zap it. So she zaps a spot beside it she already had zapped. So then after that I have this diffuse redness as a result of her doing that.
So anyways, yesterday I applied ascorbic acid about 1 hour before going into the session, because for one the people are always like "I don't see it" when they are looking for the redness I tell them is there, and also I thought, if I brought out the redness, the treatment would catch the affected area, and it would result in better results. The jury is still out on that, but I've never had it be this red the day after, so I'm pretty excited. Because the redness fades over the course of days, to a point where it was better than before.
So, long story short, don't use topicals to get rid of redness, use IPL or some type of laser. But maybe try to inflame the redness before a treatmetn session with a topical so the laser/light has more of the redness to catch, and thus fade over the course of days.
