Hello,
I started to shed hair about 4 years ago and talked to my dermatologist about this. He prescribed me finasteride, and everything has been fine since then. My shedding was minimal after that, and my hair-loss seemed to have come to a stop. A few months ago, I was diagnosed with colitis. I lost nearly 50 pounds in a span of 3 weeks, and was not able to eat anything. I was having about 500 calories a day for a month, until my system allowed me to properly eat again. Now back to the present day, I've started to shed a sh*t load of hair all over my head. This is all coming about 2-3 months after I was initially diagnosed and lost the 50 pounds.
I guess what I'm really trying to ask is ... Do you think my hair loss can be attributed to the colitis from a few months ago, or is finasteride starting to lose effectiveness?
I have a dermatologist appointment tomorrow and am going to ask if I can make the switch to dutasteride, but I'm not sure if I should wait to see if this shedding will stop over time, if in fact it is due to Telogen Effluvium and not male pattern baldness.
I just don't see how finasteride would lose effectiveness so quick and abruptly.
Thanks for your help!
