What choice should I make? (Pics Included)

I went to my dermatologist and he said that he is 99% certain that I have male pattern baldness. Knowing this I am trying to decide on a treatment. I am 22 years old and have diffuse thinning all over the top of my head. My hairline doesn't seem like it changed much but my hair is pretty thin all over the top. Every time I take a shower, quite a few strands of hair come out, not in clumps or anything like that but definitely more than what is normal. Right now it isn't too noticeable but I want to take action before it's too late. I have already started with Nizoral 2% shampoo and I like it a lot.

What do you guys recommend I start with? Propecia sounds like it may help with my kind of hair loss but isn't so effective at regrowth. I am also afraid of the side effects that seem common with the drug. I read that they may not go away and they can be pretty bad. Rogaine sounds like it could help too but it seems to be a pain to have to apply everyday twice a day.and from what I have read It doesn't slow down the hairloss process but masks it with artificial growth that will fall out if I stop applying it. I guess eventually I will have to use both treatments but I would really like to know which one to start first. I was reading that the earlier that you start on propecia the better the success. If I started rogaine and it seemed effective and than later on I would need to start with propecia it wont be as effective if I had used it in the beginning. That is why I am conflicted about it.

If I start the finpecia will cutting the pill in half (0.5mg) reduce the sides without affecting the success? Should I start it with something like DIM to lower the chances of sides?
If I start Rogaine, does it really matter if I choose the foam or the liquid?

Hi citrus!

I'd say you should possibly start taking propecia on a 0.5 mg daily dose. If you notice serious side effects (start of gyno, depression or erectile disfunction), quit the drug and jump to Revivogen.

Hm, hard to say about minoxidil. I guess it's worth a try, if you want additional regrowth besides the maintenance. But be sure you get a fast drying, non-greasy minoxidil like Dr. Lee's #500 (http://www.minoxidil.com)

Good luck!

You have done well to catch your hairloss early. Just get on the big 3 and all will be well :)

metalhead is right, you have caught it early, good work.

get on propecia, the full dose, 1mg/day. if you mutate into some weird swamp creature after a month consider dropping the dosage, but start at the prescribed 1mg/day. you do not need to add minoxidil yet, in my opinion.

in the meantime definitely pick up some nanogen or toppik (i use nanogen) - these are simulated hair fibers that you sprinkle on your head and they bind to the surrounding hair - then you can get some "locking" hairspray to keep them from rubbing out - looks 100% natural and will completely disguise your loss while the propecia kicks in.

good luck man and keep us updated.

I agree with the above posters. Just take good care and use PROVEN treatments. And don't let anyone tell you that you don't have male pattern baldness just because it's not as severe as theirs. You did exactly what metalheaddude said and caught it early. So good luck and stick with the treatments.
