What causes hair thinning on sides from early age

My sides of my head are quite substantially thinner than anyone elses in my family everyone has thick hair except me, when hair grows long it gets really gappy. What can cause this

I am also experiencing thinning at the sides as well as everywhere else on my head,
do you have any other hair loss other then the sides?

yeah iv got diffuse thinning all over,went from good hair to hair thats see through in light in like 3 months

Guess I'm in same boat dude and I'm 23.. that happened basically Jan 2011 - Mar 2011 :S

I am the same way. There is a sort of gap in the hair in front of my ears as it is very thin. I thought maybe it's because my hair is shorter than it was before, but I don't think so. It doesn't seem to have gotten any worse in the past few years though.
