What causes an itchy scalp, if it is NOT male pattern baldness?

I recently emailed Dr. Lee and told him that my scalp is itching again like it did prior to my regimen 3 months ago. The itch got quite bad, and so did my hair. After starting my regimen my scalp has been feeling a lot better. But recently the itch came back and it's mainly in the regions that I am balding.

But Dr. Lee says that male pattern baldness doesn't cause itching? What can be the cause of this itch? Can it be the shampoo that I use? It feels the same as it did prior to starting my regimen.

I always basically thought that male pattern baldness causes that itch...if not it then what is responsible for the itch in the regions we go bald?

Anyone have any real info here? I fear that my regimen might not be enough since the damn itch is back.

that's what I think too. I associate the itch with male pattern baldness, cos it's in the same area.. and that's too much of a coincidence right..

but derms seems to think the itch has nothing to do with male pattern baldness.. since they sound so sure, and they're the ones who's suppose to know these stuff, I guess there's a good chance they are right too?

A very common cause of the itch is sensitivity to a form of yeast that naturally occurs on all human scalps. This yeast, Pityrosporum ovale, can cause itching, irritation, as well as exacerbate sebum production.

The irritation caused by yeast can have a synergistic effect to the irritation caused by male pattern baldness. By fighting the yeast, using anti-fungals such as Nizoral, T-Gel, and Head and Shoulders, you might also be helping ease your male pattern baldness by reducing the ambient level of irritation in the scalp.
