What can I expect in the future?

Yesterday I turned 21 and I have been on finasteride for 15 months now and I am pleased with the results. I stabilised my hairloss, thickened a bit and even regrew a little hairline (i think). I would say that right now I am an Norwood 2 with thinning in the Norwood 2.5 region, the rest of my hair is really thick.

What can I expect fotr the future? My derm once told me finasteride works for like 7 years or so, then on forums I read that you keep inhibiting it and thus your baldness pace will stay slow (or be stopped)?

Lots of people have bumped up the dosage after 4-7 years. Usually they go from 1.25mg (1/4 proscar) to 2.5mg (1/2 proscar) and have gotten good results with it. I've been taking .5mg for the last 3+ years, and with good results. I just recently bumped it to 1.25mg (got proscar instead of generic finasteride) and am hoping to continue maintaining.

If that fails...there's always dutasteride. I'll probably go to .125mg (1/4 of a tablet) 2 times every 3 days if I feel like I need to bump it up.

Well my dad balded really slow from 18 - 55, I think hes around Norwood 5 - 6 at the moment and still 'losing ground' so to speak. Since there is no history of baldness in my mothers family (afaik) I probably got that pace.

Why take more finasteride though, because your DHT increases?
