I took propecia a few years ago without noticing any side effects but I stopped taking it one day. I've lost more hair and now I want to start again. Here's the thing though, I am not rich by any means. What is the most affordable option to treat hairloss with antiandrogens? I assume it is 5mg finasteride cut into quarters. I'm worried to do that since I heard the medication is not distributed evenly throughout the pill and thus might be pointless. I've heard people say they can get a years worth of finasteride for only $100 or so, that's very affordable.

Correct.

I'm worried to do that since I heard the medication is not distributed evenly throughout the pill and thus might be pointless.

That's nonsense.

If I remember correctly I think I paid about 60 $ for one year worth of proscar.

Is proscar/finasteride/propecia all the same thing? Does this proscar require a perscription and come in 1mg or 5mg or what? As of now I think I'll get a script for finasteride. I'd prefer the 1mg but if 5mg is a lot more affordable then I'd have to chop them up into quarters as well.... sigh

Proscar contains 5 mg finasteride, Propecia 1mg finasteride. Thats the only difference. If you cut a proscar pill in 5 you get the exact same as a propecia pill. But seeing as it is almost impossible to cut it in 5, most people cut it in 4. The difference between 1 mg and 1,25 mg is negligible.

They both require a prescription. There's also a lot of generic brands out there, but I am not familiar with them. I would recommend you to use proscar. Its cheap and an original brand.
