Ok guys. I reckon im a Norwood 2 with generally thin hair all over. Theres gel in my hair there more so in the front half. I can see a bit of extra thining around the crown which i am also worried about (as well as the temples)

im only 21 by the way.

what you's make of that picture? did i need to focus alot on my crown or is it just generally thin??

without finasteride or dutas its gonna be tough just b/c minoxidil doesnt get to the root of the problem (androgens)...You could try topical anti-androgens like spironolactone but honestly with the diffuse pattern you have it would be a pain in the *** to apply it all over your head 2 a day....I would recommend giving dutasteride or finasteride another go maybe at a reduced dosage, they are by far your best bet.

this might sound stupid mate but im too worried about messing with my potence to take finasteride or dutasteride. if anything went wrong id never forgive myself.

im just hoping my male pattern baldness slows down/stops but im worried considering im on 21....

anyone on here kinda reach nw2/3 then stop? or is it one of those things that keeps going as you age?

note, ive always been an early bloomer - had facial hair rather young and acne young too. so maybe its a phase?

its not going to stop....you will be slick bald. do not be afraid of impotence...TRUST ME all the sides are reversible...You wont have a problem...its the other way around...if you do nothing about your hair loss now in a few years youll look back and say I should have tried propecia but now its too late....If you do not believe me and all the other posters here talk to your doctor about it.

my doctor knew nothign about finasteride. i had to introduce it to him. he wasnt impressed and said all these hairloss drugs have been made for other things etc.

well mate i got a bit of ball ache when i was on finasteride. I just dont think thats cool having ball ache when its supposedly for your hair ya know. You're messing with your prostrate, Who knows half this board could have major prostrate probs down the line. I hope not but its possible.

Think im gona stick to the topicals. I know i only did finasteride for 6 months but i didnt see any effect whatsoever - no shredding when i started and no shredding since i stopped - just the same.

Sometimes it stops, moreso with receeders than thinners, yours looks like you're going to lose most of it over the next few years.. Treatment could work a treat on what you've got if you decide to go down that route, if not then you might pull off the shaved look.

I had a ball ache too for about a week or so when i first started...it went away. Listen, its up to you....if you want to save your hair your best bet is the drugs if you want to go topical my suggestions are:

topical spironolactone
prox-N
minoxidil foam

shampoo with:
nizoral
nano

I doubt you will be able to keep up with a regimen like this for the long-term. So before you go buying all these prodcuts think about if this is something you could do everyday twice a day.

That looks like you're thinning in an NW4 diffuse pattern with some solid crown diffusion showing through. The thinning extends from the frontal tuft all the way back to the crown.

Actually I take that back. That's more like NW5 level diffusion thinning in the crown. This does not mean that you are an NW5 now, you are prob like an NW3 diffuse, but you will eventually be an NW5+ in my opinion

Have you looked into the side effects of propecia and the rate in which they can occur? They are extremely low and most often go away either with continued use or simply stopping the treatment. Only you can make the decision whether you want to save your hair or not. In my opinion you look like a success story waiting to happen if you get on a dht inhibitor like procecia as soon as possible.

BTW-- there are what two maybe three dick pills out there now? Not to mention all of the other natural remedies for ED. I dont understand why people even worry about impotence anymore.

How long have you been on minoxidil?

Do you want solid regrowth or would you be happy with a little thickening and mostly just maintanence?

If you answer yes to the second question, then maybe you should just try finasteride and nizoral alone for a year then assess whether or not you want some hardcore regrowth with the minoxidil.

I understand you are afraid of using finasteride, but give it a try and if it doens't work out drop it.

If you still do not want to go the finasteride route I suggest you use the minoxidil, nizoral, and topical spironolactone. Good luck.

The sexual sides only last while you're taking. I was an unlucky 2% or whatever... but when I stop finasteride even for 2 days... all my problems in that department are magically fine.

So try it. You probably won't have problems, but if you do (like me), you can stop and be no worse for the wear.

The ball ache is a temporary thing. I had ball ache too and it went away. You have to give your body time to adjust.

Your frontal lose coupled with crown thinning tells me you are going to be slick bald in no time flat.

You better think long and hard before you give up on finasteride.

p.s. You won't go permanently impotent. I mean, you went the first 12 years of your life with very low levels of DHT before you hit puberty and that didn't ruin your sex drive now. Reduction of DHT does not peramently make you impotent. You will notice a decrease in your sex drive until your body adjusts.

Your Doctor is talking out of his arse. DHT-inhibitors were designed for the range of problems caused by androgens, including male pattern baldness.

well mate i got a bit of ball ache when i was on finasteride. I just dont think thats cool having ball ache when its supposedly for your hair ya know. You're messing with your prostrate, Who knows half this board could have major prostrate probs down the line. I hope not but its possible.

Well we might have prostate problems, but not because of finasteride. Did you know that men taking finasteride are LESS likely to get prostate cancer? Did you know that men with 5AR deficiency, who have a similar hormonal profile to finasteride users, never get benign prostatic hyperplasia?

Think im gona stick to the topicals. I know i only did finasteride for 6 months but i didnt see any effect whatsoever - no shredding when i started and no shredding since i stopped - just the same.

finasteride is better for maintenance than regrowth. Topicals have their place but a systemic DHT inhibitor - finasteride or dutasteride - has to be the cornerstone of a regimen for most men.

guys, thanks very much indeed for all the replies. I appreicate you's taking the time to lend me your advise

i cant believe im saying this but im considering going back on finasteride again.

The truth is i didnt even notice any decrease in sex drive or experience any type of ED. What i am paranoid about is it lowering my sperm count so i am infertile (Sorry i said impotent earlier, i meant infertile!!)

I might arrange another meeting with my doctor soon for another chat. If i could arrange a monthly check up on sperm count, blood pressure and/or whatever else necessary i think maybe i might go for it again.

Im only 2 weeks into my minoxidil usage and my nizoral usage so cant tell if theres any change let i think my hairs been largely the same for almost a year now (but maybe have thinned in the crown and i just havent noticed)

do any of you guys get monthly or even occasional checkups when on finasteride? what would you suggesT?

TO be honest right now im very happy with my hair. My only worry is if it deteriates beyound this. Ofcourse any regrowth would be a bonus for me for sure but id be overjoyed if i could gain a little thickening and general maintenance as that would = a mature hairline...

Plenty of men have fathered children while taking finasteride, and any side effects (which are rare) cease with the discontinuation of treatment. Besides, are you in a long-term relationship right now? Do you want to be having unprotected sex and risking pregnancy (and other things)?

I might arrange another meeting with my doctor soon for another chat. If i could arrange a monthly check up on sperm count, blood pressure and/or whatever else necessary i think maybe i might go for it again.

I'd say see another doctor who knows more about finasteride.

No, why would I bother? I'm fine.
