feeling like I got conned. Anyway I have been slowly receding I believe for a few years now, extremely slowly so slow that even to this day I still have my doubts whether its even worth treating.
Anyway I tried finding a dermatologist in my city to get a miniturization test done and couldn't actually find anything other than this trichologist. From their website I assumed they were decent, they seemed to know a lot and they spoke about how u can stop it orally and topically, i assumed they meant minoxidil and finasteride.
What I was expecting was to have my entire scalp mapped out like I have heard people here talk about. Instead I am pretty sure i paid 200 dollars to be conned into an expensive and probably useless set of treatments. Dont worry apart from the cost of the appointment i didn't part with any other coin. Anyway I have some questions cos I believe I was told a lot of tosh, they were probably unaware I had been researching hairloss for a few years now.
Anyway the very first thing they did was look at the very back of my head with the microscope where hairloss doesnt occur. Here they made not of how i have more empty follicules than they typically like to see. I was like "okay then" in my mind. To me empty follicules are just follicules where the hair has fallen out and the new hair hasn't grown in yet, yet here they were using this to say something is wrong with my hair cycle. Then in the same area where hairloss doesn't occur, there were some very thin hairs, she used this to back up her claims but I also remember many hairloss experts saying its normal to have a certain percentage of minuturized hairs on ur scalp, even in non-balding people. Anyway, literally right after they examined that part of my head, they went to one side of my hairline, had a look at it, didn't really say anything about it, then stopped the miniturization test right there. THey didn't even examine my crown for god sakes, literally just the very back of my head and one side of my hairline, no longer than 2 minutes all together. From here they launched into this big speal about how its important to get the PH level of the human body right to ensure the treatments work. Then they said the treatment plan to regrow hair goes for 4 months, costing 200 dollars a week LMAO. Then they said people online who talk about minoxidil and finasteride are bull****ters and only want ur money and that those treatments dont work and kill your cells which leads to further hairloss which i thought was hilarious considering i could have a 3 month supply of find for 50 dollars compared to the 200 dollar a week treatment this place was offering.
Anyway I know I was conned straight away. I mentioned how my dad is in his sixties and only recently began to recede and she used that to definately conclude that I am going to lose my hair. She didn't mention anything about mature hairlines and pretty much made the situation seem really serious and grave even tho I have a great head of hair stil . I have researched finasteride for years and I have finally decided to get on it, but its frustrating not being able to find a place that is neutral and unbiased. I guess ill just have to go to my GP.
