upon walking in I was surrounded by about 10,000 mirrors where I could see myself from every possible angle. It was actually quite disturbing. I then went to the front desk and there was about 3-4 people behind there just chatting with there backs to me completely aware of my presence but chosing to ignore me, I was like "helloooooo customer" so after about 2-3 minutes of being ignored I was finally greeted, by this absolutely enormous barn door lats, steroid abusing meathead with like a NW0 hairline, he then proceeded to eye me up and down like I was some pencil neck piece of garbage with a really bad hairline who just blew in on the wind by mistake. I told him i was interested in a membership, he then tried to talk me into paying direct debit for $300 a month, i was like "wow are you going to do my workouts for me are you?" I mean how ridiculous, just to think you have to do all that work to lose weight or build muscle and they want to charge you that much before you even start?...ludicrous. Anyway he then briefly took me down into the gym where I saw rows and rows of treadmills with 40 plus somthing women, with serious cases of excessive botox use, peroxide, fake tans and big fake balloon sized tits jiggling up and down in an almost hypnotic rhythmic like motion...All the equipment at this gym was ultra high tech, like things ive never even seen before, looked like it had been designed by nasa or something, looked like it would take you an hour just to figure out how to use it, only to jump on it backwards and have some meathead walk passed and laugh at you...needless to say this gym was not for me

I have since found a new smaller old school gym, with nice friendly staff and reasobley priced memebership. screw that other gym, it actually reminded me of Ben Stillers gym in the movie dodgeball, they prob connect there nipples to electrodes like Stiller and does in the movie and zap themselves when they get tempted to eat the donut. Losers

I feel you metalheaddude, the gym I visited had so called fitness trainers that were more like high pressure sales people. Almost everyone of them was almost as out of shape as me lol. Man, I wish there was a gym with no mirrors as I hate looking at my hair, SIGHS.

Just out of curiosity, are you trying to build muscle or lean up some flab. I know the idea of joining a gym is good, it motivates you more, so i do see the logic. Anyhow how about a home gym setup?, if its a question of space i can understand why the membership, but in the long run a set of free weights and treadmill or just plain jogging can be just as effective right? I'm toying with the idea of maybe joining a gym , but I'm also considering the home gym thing.
Also i could save some $ . Any thoughts?

I wanna build more muscle. Im quite muscular already, but I have a more lean athletic look, so i can look quite skinny in regular clothes. Not bulky. I want to be more physically imposing. I thought about a home gym, but its hard to get motivated at home.....

a friend of mine gave my name to some gym because they asked if he had any friends who wanted to have a free afternoons use of the equipment, basically get me through the door and sell sell sell! i never actually went because the world is my gym (and all that ahem) but anyways the staff kept calling me ,they actually called 5 times in one week to try and get me to come down and sign up,all for the low low price of £60 a month, ridiculous!

For that price I'd buy my own stuff. maybe a fold up bench under my bed. But when memberships get down to $25 per month, that is when I become interested.

For English guys - as I see the £ signs. Give Pruhealth a look.

£60 a month is ridiculous, let alone £300 by direct debit

I was on a PruHealth insurance offer which bundled gym membership for 6 months with health insurance. I chose the most budget option (i.e. it would never have been in my interests to claim - huge excess etc) but this meant I got gym membership for £18 a month for 6 months.

AFAIK they've changed it since. It's still a good-ish offer. You pay a variable amount for the health insurance, depending on how many times a month you go to the gym. Painful if you're a slob and you miss it, but if you have the discipline, it sure beats signing up normally.
