Was on 2.5 mg finasteride for about 8 months with nizoral for about 2-3 months. All I did was lose, I tried minoxidil but it irritates my scalp too much and causes too much inflammation. I ran out of finasteride and did nothing for about a month and a half. Currently been on dutasteride .5 mg for 1.5 months, still have inflammation and steady hair loss. Diffuse thinning throughout my whole head, including the sides of my head. I think my male pattern baldness is too strong, my dad is 51 and completely bald on top and barely any hair on his sides/back. Not sure if dutasteride is even strong enough to save my hair, think my genes have made it hopeless :( Anyone else with diffuse thinning over their entire head have any success? I expect to be completely bald in about 6-8 months probably. I guess the plus side is my hair line hasn't receded really that much compared to the rest of my hair :(

DENI3D,

Please stay on Dutasteride, a month and a half is far too early to make any conclusions. I also have diffused thinning throughout my entire head, in a Norwood 6 pattern. Treatment works on aggressive male pattern baldness, it has for me. I also had really bad inflammation but Dutasteride has helped a lot with that. I personally recommend to give Minoxidil another try that is if you haven't tried using the foam version yet, if you used the liquid version before than the PG in it is most likely what caused irritation to your scalp.

I've had success treating my baldness, and I'm sure you will too if treatment works well for you. :)

I'm going to stick with it but I'm not holding out much hope :/ Also what is PG?

Well were kinda in the same situation, i was on 1mg finasteride for 8/9 months didn't really notice much of a difference. When I moved to 1.25mg proscar in november of last year I steadily lost hair throughout my entire head back/sides included and fast too. Some of it I contribute to me stopping minoxidil which I had to stop because like you it irritated the crap out of my scalp. PG is propylene glycerin its in liquid minoxidil and rogaine foam, but isn't in kirkland foam for whatever reason. So that might work for you if your allergic to PG. I've used it alongside trying to keep my scalp moist, but still got bad irritation/inflammation. I believe my scalp is just really sensitive. My father lost his hair in his 40's and never really had hairline recession only diffuse thinning. I have both which sucks. It's been almost 6 months since I made the small jump from 1 to 1.25, but I've lost probably 50-60% of my density which is pretty frightening. I can lift my hair up and see down my entire scalp. I'd say my sides and back are probably worse then my top, but I keep them shorter then my top so maybe they are even.

Pretty lost at the moment, I either jump back down to finasteride 1mg see what happens or move to dutasteride. I also feel like at least by the end of this year I will be rocking a baldie.

If you haven't seen anything in 8/9 months it is safe to assume it's ineffective, that's what my dermatologist said. If I were you I'd get on dutasteride asap, we don't have much time anyways. Even with dutasteride I'm not holding much hope, anything that inflames your scalp more is bad for regrowing hair so it isn't worth it. I'm pretty close to as thin on my sides as on top, my sides might be even thinner than on top. I'm close to 2 months ahead of you so we will see. Doctor also gave me this liquid for topical use to help with inflammation that is called Fluocinonide. It helps a little bit with inflammation but it's insanely expensive, it was $80 something for 60 ml. Will update this and let you know if I have any improvement. Looks like were at the final stretch of having hair though buddy :uglylol:. No point in stressing over things we can't contro:sulkoff:l.

I won't say its uncontrollable until I exhaust every option there is (aside from HRT drugs and whatever that swisstemples guy is doing). Those are a little too extreme imo.

PG is Propylene Glycol, it's a compound with penetrative abilities that can be very irritating for some people's skin.

I know this hair loss stuff is tough to deal with, I'm still going through it. Please stick with treatment, it's important to keep in mind that they can really take a long time to start working adequately for some individuals.

I saw on another thread that you buy dutasteride for only 6$ for 30 pills? How many mg? That's what I need because my pills are costing 22$ a month which is ridiculous. Can you provide a link please?

Yes, $6 or less for 30 capsules. Each capsule contains 0.5 mg of Dutasteride, it does not come in any other dose. I have a prescription for the treatment, so I don't buy it online. I have health insurance, so I'm sure they're obviously paying a certain amount for the medication, I'll need to check how much they're covering. I would pay $70+ a month for genuine Avodart before Dutasteride became generic, it certainly was not an inexpensive drug.

Wish I could even get a script for dutasteride, been to 4 different derms and 1 hair transplant specialist who wanted to see me before even answer the question until he saw me in person.

Ya you have to have at least 1 visit. Tell them you've been on finasteride for 8 months and want to try something stronger, my dermatologist said she normally doesn't prescribe dutasteride but since finasteride was ineffective she prescribed it and asked me to see her again in 3 months.

Your situation sounds exactly like mine, thinning pretty much everywhere apart from the back, maybe even there too but funnily enough I barely ever see the back of my head... :p.

Been on finasteride for 7 months and zero progress, possibly maintained but very hard to say as my hair loss is so gradual and my hairline is fore the most part; intact, so t's tricky to judge in the mirror easily from that perspective.

Hair is definitely still very much worse than it was a year ago today.

Can I ask the following:

1. What exact brand of generic finasteride were you taking? And were the tablets 1mg or 5mg tabs split up?

2. How's the dutasteride working out for you thus far?

Cheers lad

No mate, I'm still taking finasteride, still no regrowth at all, hopefully I've stabilised at around baseline. Some days my hair looks worse now than a year ago depending on how it is laying, but maybe that was how it also was a year ago, photos are key of course, but defo no regrowth at all.

I'm hoping to switch to dutas a couple of years from now because I A) I want to have a kid prior to going on dutas, and B) hopefully by then dutas might be slightly easier and cheaper to get hold of in the United Kingdom for hair loss purposes, (although that's probably just wishful thinking).
