Hey guys, new here! Anyway, I recently turned 18 (I'm a male) and I'm experiencing a different type of hair loss. So a little background story...when I was about 13, I started ripping out of my head whenever I got anxious. I usually ripped out the hair in the center of my hair line so you can imagine how dumb I looked. However, these hairs would always grow back and just as thick. Now fast forward a couple years later and I kind of got into the habit, albeit not nearly as bad. I used to literally bald the area...now it just looks kinda thin. But the hair isn't growing back. Now before you jump to "you probably damaged the follicles", I don't think it's that simply because hair was growing completely fine within the past 5 years. On top of that, it was growing up until I plucked it out of my head. And even now, if I pluck a hair out of my head, it won't grow back. It's weird. The hair is fine up until I take it out. I read somewhere that NSAIDs like advil and other medication like benadryl can cause hair loss after chronic use. For the last 6 months, I've been taking about 400-1600 mg a day of advil and 50 mg a day of benadryl. I've been off of both of them for a few weeks now but still no improvement. Do you guys think it's the meds? Should I just wait a bit longer? Or have possibly hit the age where DHT is starting to kick in and keeping my hair from growing? Any ideas as to what's causing this and/or what I can do??
**Side note: I've been using rogaine for a 1-2 months now with no changes.
