I see alot of you dudes are taking a multivitamin... like GNC or whatever... is there hope that it will help male pattern baldness, or are you guys just taking it for the hell of it? or maybe just to improve your over all health.

There are some evidence that Zinc (or the lack thereof) play a role in male pattern baldness - even though it's probably a minor one.

That's why.

I'd say that I take my multi-vitamin for my over-all health. It only makes sense that if you're whole body is healthier, that your hair would benefit as well 8)

I take it for my overall health. However, after starting to use a serious multivitamin each day, I did notice improvement in the quality of my fingernails. I can only assume from this observation that they can't be anything but a positive for the hair as well.

i take MSM every night, whcih is great for strengthening my nails (which are otherwise terrible) and also speeds up the hair cycle, so your hair grows faster. Might have an effect on response tiimes to new treatments, but this is only conjecture.

I been taking magnesium everyday now for a week and I already feel its effect on my health. I feel better and my eyes focus better. The stuff is much underestimated.

I've been taking vitamins targeted at hairloss prevention on and off since the late 70s.

Can't say that anything's helped in this area - but they haven't hurt.

Basically, my philosophy on vitamins is that they help set the stage for healthy hair growth to occur. I wouldn't consider them the end all and be all in hairloss prevention though.

Having said that - here's what I started doing beginning July 2004:

Biotin, B-complex, calc/magn/zinc, E, Ginko, L-arginine, L-lysine
~ 10/19/04, added MSM, Inositol, Saw palmetto, Beta-Sitosterol, C, Flaxseed Oil,
~ 03/01/05, added Choline, Fish Oil, Fo-Ti, Grape Seed Extract,
~ 03/01/05, dropped Saw Palmetto
