Views on baldness over the ages

I originally thought that in the times of the bible, being bald wouldn't have been an issue. However, there is a genuine bible story about the prophet Elisha who got mocked by children for being bald. This amused me. The story then goes on to say that Elisha got some divine assistance and God sent two angry bears to brutally kill the group of children so that Elisha could carry on and tell people about how nice God is. But I won't get into religion...
