Hi Guys,

Hope all well. Got a couple of qu's for you.

Been on Avodart for a year (since October 2013), and my hairloss has continued. Not drastic, but gradual. Thinning of the crown and left side, slight widows peak. It is noticeable in certain lights; will be really noticeable in all light within a year I should think.

What saddens me is that I have been on meds for roughly 5 years (I'm 24 now). Finesteride for two years, generic dutasteride for another two, then avodart, changing up when I figured things weren't working. I have taken a capsule religiously everyday at 12pm. Also have used nizoral 3x a week throughout that time.

With Avodart the shed at around 8 weeks was pretty strong, and I had headaches on and off for a month, but they passed when my body got used to them.

Truthfully, its the first time when I felt a drug was having an effect on my hair loss; yet at no point in this past year, or in the previous 5, has my hairloss stopped or slowed. In fact I think that Avodart has speeded it up, or at least, I've lost more hair on it, presumably through shedding.

My question to you is, should I hold out for another 6 months to see if the Avodart might work before adding minoxidil to my regime? I would do Rogaine foam in the morning and liquid at night. Bit worried about its hit and miss ratio, but I suppose I couldn't hurt.

All in all I feel a little unlucky as I had hoped to catch it early enough to stop it. But I guess we can't all be so fortunate.

Any way, thanks for any help you can offer, and bets of luck to all your programs, I hope they work better for you!!

Best,

Hey, it sounds like you have pretty aggressive hairloss. I am sure that the meds have worked, but the your hairloss might just be that aggressive. You could wait 6 months, and then think to add to your regimen if you haven't seen improvement. Minoxidil won't really do much, but I suggest RU58841. That's your only real bet if dutasteride is not working. minoxidil might buy you a couple of years, though.
RU58841 is an experimental drug that several hair loss sufferers turn to when finasteride/dutasteride is not enough. It's a hassle to buy and a hassle to make the solution regularly, but if it can maintain your hair, who cares right?

Good luck. I hope you find an effective treatment for you.

Cheers mate, many thanks!

Free Testosterone is secret killer of hair follicules for some people. Dutasteride and finasteride can only blocks to DHT hormone.

But not free testosterone.

Free testosterone alone causes to hair loss, male pattern baldness and diffuse thinning like DHT hormone for some people..

There is little evidence to show that free testosterone has any way near the same effects as dht. However, if it were true, RU would still out compete testosterone in the follicles.
