Hey everyone, I just noticed my hair seriously thinning. I'm almost 27 now.

I am on my very first week of finasteride 1mg per day.

I'm wondering what else I should be doing to improve my hair. My derm told me to do Minoxidil but I'm a little worried what kind of shedding I'll get starting that and finasteride at the same time. I feel like I want to run finasteride for awhile and get used to the drug before I start the Minoxidil as well.

Are there other topicals that would be recommended or supplements that would be good as I'm just starting out?

Also, since I started finasteride, I known its only been a week, but my scalp itching has increased quite a bit. I'm worried that this itching is my hair reacting badly to the finasteride. I had a fair amount of itching before I started, but it seems to be getting worse.. is this a bad sign???

My hair loss seems to be very diffuse, as I don't seem to be receding much at all yet, but my hair is very much thinning from the front to the crown everywhere. pictures are attached

Yeah finasteride will work for you I bet. I would start rotating some anti itch / anti fungal shampoos. I like the idea of trying one regimen for 6 months before introducing a new one. To me it makes sense to let finasteride start working before introducing minoxidil. That way your hormones will be leveled out and the new hair that minoxidil will help grow will stick around and grow stronger from the finasteride.

At least tell the kid all the sides of the big 3 before recommending it. You list all what finasteride, min, and nizoral can do, but I see only one side listed: watery semen.
Stop being biased and list ALL information. Then I will cool it with my anti finasteride campaign.

Take a neutral stance! Or I have to be pure anti-finasteride to balance the finasteride cheerleading

Yes, I've read all the stories about finasteride, and am happy to take my chances. So far, no major issues. I am interested in what the possible sides of min and nizoral may be though.

I recommend min foam in the morning and min liquid at night. Some side effects with min can be headache, unwanted hair growth, and heart palpitations, but these are rare and are no more than the placebo.

Some people get an itchy scalp from using min liquid. This is a real side effect but with the use of anti itch shampoos you shouldn't have much of an issue. Scalp itch will actually decrease using min with regular usage over time because it helps your follicles get nutrients. The dht in your blood will still cause minituarization to your follicles even with the use of min so over time you will lose your hair unless you take finasteride.
The foam is good in the morning cause it doesn't leave your hair greasy. It takes some getting used to but I actually prefer it to nothing at all to help my style my hair. It makes it straighter and look more thicker when i use the foam. Huge plus IMO. The liquid is nice cause it is easier to apply to your scalp. I prefer to take this at night.

Nizoral / T Gel / Head and shoulders anti itch. All related to dandruff, all anti fungal, and all anti itch. I don't believe that nizoral is going to help your hair loss. Sure Keto has anti androgen properties if taken orally, but applying it to your scalp probably won't do a whole lot. However there has been proven synergy with min and nizoral together that proves otherwise. nizoral helps with inflammation. Settling the inflammation down will slow down your hair loss, but not cure it. Use it 2 - 3 times a week. Less is more when it comes to nizoral. Overuse can have the opposite effect. What I would do is pick three different shampoos. Put them in order in your bathroom. Use the most front of the line one and then place it in the back of the line. That way you are always using your shampoos once every three days.

The thing is your stance really isn't strengthening your cause. You are coming across as a nut job. Nobody with the exception of coolmusti(you) has ever backed up what you said, which is sad because there are other guys here that are also anti finasteride. I am not going to sit here and list all the sides. That's what his doctor is for. His Doctor will by far be in a better position to give an unbiased opinion, unlike you.

Most people have already read the horror stories. Why he feels he need to constantly repeat the same nonsense is beyond me. If we all followed baylife's advice, we would all be treating our hair loss with BS oil treatments heading top speed to NW7.

Thanks, this is helpful.

Main concern with min is heart problems and palpitations. These are of concern mainly if your a runner, bodybuilder, old, or already have heart or breathing problems

I am a runner and I am worried about these heart issues with minoxidil, palpitations would give me a lot of anxiety, but I have not researched this at all yet, so I don't really know.

minoxidil taken orally will lower your blood pressure. topically it is no different than the placebo. but if it was going to effect you it would lower your blood pressure. If you already have very low blood pressure it might cause some complications.

The worst is the soft dick, tits, and watery semen. If your willing to risk these, then looks like you may keep your hair for a while.

Why is the watery semen one of the worst sides? Why would it even matter? Is it having an effect on your p**rn career? You just list the typical sides you read about on propeciahelp, and claim you got each and every one of them, then try to convince everybody that it will happen to them too.

You say most people have read the horror stories. Then most people have also read the advantages of medical treatment. You argument is invalid. I believe you should list advatages and disadvantages. Not list advantages and tell the user to be care free about sides. A little precaution concerning sides goes along way. It would help him get off treatment as soon as he notices the earliest of sides

Who said don't worry about sides?

I have described myself as Pro finasteride in the past, but I think a better description would be Pro hair. If a better hair loss treatment ever becomes available, finasteride is going in the garbage.
