vertex sensation

My vertex has been thiniing rapidly over the last couple years. I am on a regimen with Propecia (9 months) Nizoral and was using folligen. I dont get itching too much, but a subtle burning sensation at the vertex everyday , the scalp seems very senstive in that area.If I pat it, the burning sensation starts and doesn't go away for 10 minutes or so. Is there something more I can be doing to treat my scalp in that spot?

Hi,

sounds like me.. I'm in my 8th month on finasteride though.

i suggest using your nizoral 1% 2 - 3x weekly.. add a few drops of emu oil to your palm and mix it with the shampoo.. let it all sit on your scalp to soak in for about 5 - 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water and follow with a cold water rinse which will close your pores and cool your skin.

do this for a couple of weeks and if it doesn't solve your sensitive vertex issue, then add a good quality hydrating/moisturizing conditioner to your regimine, and apply it for a few minutes after every shampoo. :)

try using t/sal (salicylic acid) and/or t/gel (coal tar) shampoo in your regimine, or even head & shoulders (pyrithione zinc). Simply rotate them into the mix from time to time.. it's okay to experiment in order to find the products that work for you, just use them properly and you'll be fine.

you should also drop the folligen for awhile, isolate your use of products down to the essentials (nizoral & finasteride) and see if the folligen was the 'culprit' for making your skin sensitive, as it isstrong stuff and can be more irritating than helpful for some people. i dropped using folligen spray from my regimine, as it didn't do anything for me.

emu oil can be found doing a search on google. i use DDM Wholesale brand and stand by it faithfully.

take care,
-mike

thanks, I like your advice, my folligen just ran out and I thought it was perhaps causing irritation as my scalp seems pretty sensitive to most things, even when I diluted it, made a great aftershave though!
have you noticed any results yet? I have been growing my hair since I started, but as spring approaches I am going to shave my head short again and compare to last summer, so scared....

I'm one of those guys who hasn't taken any pictures :p

I have my hair at about #2 clipper setting (standard u.s. clipper set).. and it looks pretty good I think. I can run my palms over my head and I only feel minimal thinning towards the crown/vertex.. that's about it.

I've noticed hardly any hair falls out in the shower, or anything on my pillows.. all these months of finasteride have done me well so far and I think I'm a 'good responder'... keepin' the faith, I think nizoral helps too.

I think after a year+ on finasteride, I will have even great results, but definately I notice no hair in the shower, as opposed to when my hair was many inches long, and noticable in the shower .. :)

I did have bad itch on crown/vertex for many months during early finasteride days... but it has gone down almost completely :)
